Unexpected pain worse than foreseen pain?

I have rheumatoid arthritis. Sometimes I can accidentally catch or bump my wrist often just a low impact but the pain is horrible. Yet if I do something similar and can see it happen it is so much easier. Is there a logical reason for this?

@Rheumgirl59 Thank you for sharing your experience. I don't personally have XYZ condition but I know lots of our members do and while we can't give medical advice, hopefully someone will be able to share their experience with you, too.
Take care.
Holly.

I can assume that if you see the moment of impact, you also saw the moment before the impact and instinctively tried to reduce the force of the impact. No magic.
