I guess it just means when benefits go up each year you don’t get it, you just stay on the same money you get and it never goes up in line with benefits going up. Since they go up so small it won’t always have a great affect but over the years it might. However if you’re in receipt of pip that will still go up. That’s how I understand it. But I agree, some of these answers are not straightforward and quite scary when you’re being told to wait as long as possible because you “lose money” or be worse off. It’s hard to know what’s best. Guess il just talk to citizen advice and ask tomorrow

Erodes just means Transitional Protection reduces by the same amount as other elements increase.. for example if standard allowance increases by £20/month your TP will reduce by the same amount. Therefore your overall entitlement will remain the same.

I advised you but no one can force you to wait. You haven't actually confirmed that your ESA includes the Severe disability Premium. If it doesn't then financially you'll be better off by claiming UC because LCWRA element with UC pays more than ESA Support Group if the ESA doesn't include the SDP.

If it includes SDP then you'll be entitled to TP so you won't be worse off at the time of claiming.

It does include SDP. What I mean is that the way things are worded here sometimes are frightening to those reading it. I understand that my UC will never go up, that whatever I am awarded I will be on for the duration of the time I claim, so as things go up in price etc I will never get an uplift to my benefit. They put benefits up each April so it's not like it will erode week by week? Will be year by year.

Do you have to attend a face to face assessment if you are in the support group and can provide proof of ID?

I didn't advise that your UC will never increase. Of course it will increase once TP erodes completely. How long it takes to erode will be different for everyone. What I said was, eventually you'll be receiving the same amount as someone that isn't currently receiving SDP.

For your first appointment if you can't attend in person you can ask for a reasonable adjustment for a telephone appointment.

My cousin didn't, she did it all online. I don't know the specific reasons for if they would ask you to go in for a face to face, maybe if you're unable to confirm your ID online correctly? But as poppy said you can request a phone call if you cannot attend
