LEARNING TO SWIM
Hi Folks
I have right hemiplegia from birth and in my mid 50s now.
I am thinking of learning to swim. What type of instructors should I use? Should I look for ones with particular qualifications and experience?
Thanks in advance for responses.

I would say your local leisure centre would be your best bet. However, you need to look for one that I'd accessible because not all pools are. Based on what you have told me I think you are going to need a 1-2-1 with you so I would recommend having private lessons

Hi @geek84
I am going to tag our wonderful CP network in this post as they may be able to offer more specific information and support for your query @SaraC_Scope1 -
Hi @geek84
This sounds like a great plan. Swimming can be really beneficial for people with CP. and it's never to late to learn. I have right sided hemiplegia and learnt to swim as a child. I'm never going to be an Olympic swimmer but I can swim a few lengths of a pool and the water is great therapy for my hand and leg.
It might be worth contacting your local leisure centre for some advice. Or check out some private coaches who can offer 1:1 swim sessions. If you can share your area, I will explore local swimming support.
Kind regards
