Can I ask for a re assessment
hi all
I recently had my asd assessment and I’m not happy, can I ask to be re referred before getting the outcome? I know the long wait so don’t want to delay anymore than 8 have to by waiting

You can ask for a 2nd opinion but you need to wait for the results of this assessment first. This link is based on a child but it's the same for adults.

I'm sorry you're not happy with your assessment @apples. Was there anything in particular that concerned you about it?

When I had the slt someone else was sitting in I was told to monitor the assessor not me, as he was sitting next to me I felt my personal space was compromised therefore just quickly answered the questions so I could get out, so when I was asked specific questions I didn’t give truthful answers as I didn’t want to be asked further to be longer in the room

I can understand why that made you feel uncomfortable. Have you heard any more about the assessment or outcome @apples?

I'm sorry @apples, it must be difficult, especially having to wait this long. Are you finding ways to keep busy to try and distract yourself from it?

Hi @Morgan_Scope unfortunately I am self harming and gambling as I’m angry with myself not conducting the assessment properly

I'm really sorry you're feeling like this, @apples, but I’m glad you reached out. It's important to get support when you're feeling overwhelmed.
If you're struggling with self-harming and gambling, Samaritans (116 123) can offer emotional support anytime and if you're self-harming, it could be good to speak to them.
You might also want to contact Mind (0300 123 3393) for mental health support. It can help to talk to someone about how you're feeling, especially if you feel stuck with the assessment process.
Please be kind to yourself.

I was initially told 3 years, but as I never had anything in writing or any response since the referral I kept ringing to ask where I was on the list, I was then told that due to the backlog they have employed more psychologists hence why it wasn’t the 3 years wait
Merry Christmas to you to x

apples did actually go through if you the full assessment with an asessor or did you just fill in the forms and was waiting to go through an assessment.
I had part one did the forms no asessment with ADOS. They spoke to my mum though who never remembered my childhood with illness. She said I didn't have any. I had strong evidence but it went no further. Later I did the forms again with help as everyone in hospital staff was saying I was autistic and everything was. I did the tessts again and was helped do the forms. This time my mum was not needed to speak to.I got my medical history from my GP. To my shock and horror I discovered I was very unwell often with infections as a child and hospitalised for 3 days as just a tender less than two months. That was the crunch point. I had information and was spoken to who knew my childhood and repetition all of it. I was diagnosed with autism and put a good show probably level 2 in several areas and sometimes feel some go to level 3. So, I applied again and was diagnosed a good while back now.
I have read too that some people have challenged a full assessment decision. How they did it though and outcome I am not sure. You though can go privately online and have an assessment or a right to choose in the UK which drives down waiting time. May be have a good case why your GP shoud refer you to right to choose or you do it, not sure how done, look it up. I say this if they refuse to look your full asssement decision if you had one. Get more evidence together if you need to. Good luck.

Thank you @MsR When I was referred by my psychologist (me asking to be referred) she done a questionnaire around 5 questions one I vaguely remember was do I see the whole picture or part of, I told the psychologist I don’t understand the question, so not sure what she put, I had a video link with a psychologist, then the psychologist spoke to my mother, then I had the assessment face to face with the slt, but weren’t happy with the bloke sitting in assessing the therapist not me apparently but as he was sitting next to me I felt my personal space was violated so never answered some of the questions as I just wanted to get out
I will ask for a second opinion when I get the results, the only down side to private I have heard apart from the cost, is some places won’t accept a private assessment so I’ve been told
apart from certain family and some relationships who have said I’m autistic, a gp or pro have never picked up on it, as mentioned I had to ask for the referral as I’ve always felt different

Thank you for explaining apples. So you are fearing the worst without having your results yet. I wish that the best outcome happens for you. I can see some strenghts already for you in what you have written. They may have taiken you as not that sociable as you didn't bond with the accessor so that may have been a score. It doesn't seem like much eye contact would have been happening and that is a score. The write ups are not that nice they write, In the report they was watching me from the waiting area with my blanket for comfort and reporting on it. From the time I went in and out the door was noted.
I have read of several people who feared the worst but was diagnosed with autism. Do update when you get your results.
