LCWRA and deductions

I'm a little unsure if there are any deductions made from my standard UC amount if i was to be awarded LCWRA after my upcoming WCA.

I currently get:
Standard UC for Single, 25 or over
Housing component within UC (25% deduction because of 2 spare bedrooms)
PIP daily living - standard

I do not work, have zero savings and i don't owe any money to the DWP or anybody else.

If there are no deductions made, am i correct in thinking i would get an extra
£416.19 each month on top of my current benefits?

Yes the £416.19/month is the new April rate, which would be from either May or June depending on what date your payment date is.

Before that the element was £390.06/month.

If your PIP includes the daily living part and you need regular overnight care you can claim an extra bedroom for a carer.

Thanks, but just to clarity, there aren't any deductions made from my current benefits if i was awarded the £416.19 LCWRA amount?

No there isn’t. LCWRA increases your entitlement.

Just to report, after a long process i have been awarded LCWRA and I've received the letter in my UC journal.

I'm sure you tire of these questions, but could you give me an idea of when payments will be made?

New health conditions were added on 01st March 2024 along with a 3 month fit note (new 3 month fit note added today, although not sure i needed to)

My normal UC payments are made on the 14th of each month.

If you could tell me what month and date i will receive the LCWRA payment it would be very helpful.

That's great news. No, you didn't need to provide that fit note. It does tell you on the decision letter that no further fit notes are needed.

If 1st March was the date you provided your first fit note your waiting period will be. March/April, April/May, May/June… LCWRA starts from assessment period 8th June to 7th July and first payment will be 14th July. No LCWRA element is owed.

    Thanks a lot!

Yeah i actually submitted the new fit just before i got the award!

Just to clarify, if the first payment will be the 14th July, is it just the full £416 monthly LCWRA payment, or is there any extra from days up to the 14th as you said "LCWRA starts from assessment period 8th June to 7th July" so extra from say 7th July?

    Not sure how it works!

Sorry, I'm not sure what you meant by this

" No LCWRA element is owed."

Just to report back that after a long process i have finally been awarded LCWRA and i have received the letter in my UC journal.

New health conditions were added on 01 March 2024 along with a 3 month fit note (additional fit note added today for another 3 months)

My normal UC payments are on the 14th of each month

It will be an extra £416.19/month from 14th July. There’s no extra owed because UC is paid 1 month in arrears.

Your assessment periods are 8th to 7th of every month and then on 14th of the month you receive payment which covers that assessment period.

What I mean by no LCWRA is owed is exactly that, you are not owed any money. Some people wait quite a long time for a decision and then they are owed some money. Your decision was made quite quickly so no money is owed.

There’s a full 3 month assessment period period waiting time and the extra money is paid from the 4th month after you provided your first fit note. First payment is then at the end of that month.

Hi I would like your help poppy please as you seem to understand it more than anyone even at UC. i get paid £1217 for me and my children as one of them is highly disabled. I receive the carers allowance but not the element. So this is deducted from my UC and has been since August and that’s fine. However now that I’m claiming LCWRA they are taking a significant amount from it with no actual reason. One is for arrears which I no longer have. The other is for Child tax credit overpayment. I am wondering if I claim carers will I receive the full amount or will they’re always be a gap a missing chunk of £300 as I now get paid with lcwra £1346 only a hundred pounds more when I should be recieving the full £416 amount

You can't get Carers Element unfortunately as you already get LCWRA. The same person cannot get both.

Did you have Transitional Protection before claiming LCWRA?

If so, the award of LCWRA will reduce the amount of TP that you get.

I had a transitional protection which they are deducting now I think. However how would I get the full amount I am a carer for my son and receive pip for myself

If you had TP then the award of LCWRA would have reduced the TP amount, which might explain why you are now only £100 better off. There is no way to get the full amount due to your existing TP.

You cannot get Carers element because you are not entitled due to receiving LCWRA.

Do you receive Disabled Child Element for your son?

Sorry but what do you mean how do you get the full amount? full amount of what?

How much was the Transitional Protection before the LCWRA element was added? LCWRA is £416.19/month so if it was more than that then you would not have been better off with the additional LCWRA element.

When claiming carers allowance as well as UC it's deducted in full so no financial gain to claiming it.

I receive dla for my son high rate. Pip high rate for myself. And UC with lcwra. Basically I just assumed that this amount wouldn’t be deducted from. Am I right in thinking that they deducting for my transitional protection?

Yes apparently so however it doesn’t make sense to me. I am receiving exactly what I used to receive other than the pip payment.
