Migration from ESA to UC (what do I do?)...

Hi.

I have to complete the migration to UC by early March. I intend to make the move over soon.

What type of questions will I be asked in the online assessment?

How do I provide ID? I only have a passport and a debit card. Will one be sufficient, or will I need to give them details of both? Can I take a photo of my passport on my phone and upload it, or do I need to have a scanner of some sort?

I'm on ESA and I'm in the support group, so I don't have to have an interview or provide any medical notes. When I fill in the online questions, what shall I put? Should I leave some boxes blank, or are they all mandatory?

Thank you for your help.

It will be a new claim application so the questions will be .. name, address, who you bank with, who you live with, do you have capital, if so how much etc etc. You need to answer the questions that apply.

Citizens Advice have a help to claim phone number. They will be able to support you through an application. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/claiming/contact-us-about-universal-credit/

Yes your passport can be used for ID. If this can’t be verified online then you will need to attend an appointment. If you can’t attend in person this can be done by telephone and they will do a biographical appointment and ask questions only you know the answers to, such as who you bank with, date of birth etc etc.

As you’re in the Support Group you’ll be entitled to the LCWRA element from the start of your claim. You will not need to provide fit notes or have another work capability assessment. It may take ESA a few weeks to send your details across

Once a claim is submitted your income Related ESA will continue for 2 weeks and then stop.

    Hi.

Even though I'm in the support group and don't have to provide any medical evidence, will I still have to answer medical related questions during the claim? If so, I will do the best I can, but I might find it difficult to be extremely in depth without a lot of notes present, due to memory issues.

As I'm being moved over to UC from the ESA support group, will I definitely get UC, or could they deny my claim? If they do, I assume I can appeal? Can I put a note that I'm in the support group during the claim, or will UC be notified of this?

Finally, if my claim is approved, will they notify me via email or through the post?

It seems a bit daunting but I know it has to be done.

    Thank you for your help.

A brief list of your medical conditions is sufficient for the application.

UC is based on financial circumstances, unless you have more than £16,000 in capital then yes you should be awarded UC.

It's a good idea to add a Journal (your online UC account) note that you are migrating from Support Group ESA.

It takes ESA a few weeks to send your details to UC and confirm your status.

31-33 days after applying your first statement will be available in your online UC account. This confirms the payment that will be paid on your payment date.

Nothing ever comes through the post for UC, it's all done electronically.

Sorry if this is not the right place to add this. I have also had the letter asking me to migrate to UC.

I am in the support group and get the sever disability preium. But i see people are saying about £16,000 in capital. Does anyone know if this means the house you live in as well?

if you own partly own it and it's more than £16,000. Does that count as capital now?

The house you live in is excluded.
