Hi, I'm just looking for abit of help I recieved a random call yesterday from the mandatory reconsideration decision maker for my pip claim which I wasn't expecting at all after I had already recieved a letter to say they had everything they needed to make a decision. When I spoke to the decision maker she asked me if I'd been in prison here or abroad and or any hospital or care home stays since I made my claim and then she asked to confirm my bank details were still the same as when I first made the claim. Does everyone get this call and questions and it's just part of the process? I'm trying to remain hopeful and positive that my claim will be awarded but the pip process is so stressful I'm constantly overthinking everything.

That's usually the questions they ask before making a payment. You also mention the Mandatory Reconsideration. (MR) Then mention the phone call was after you received the "we have all the information we need to make a decision." That letter is usually sent out after you've had your assessment and before the first decision is made. They don't usually send that letter out for the MR stage. The MR is after the first decision and is something you request if you disagree with the first decision that's made, it's the first step in challenging a decision. It sounds like they haven't made the first decision yet.

It doesn't make a difference but i just wanted to explain what the MR is.

I've had the first refusal already  I was awarded some points but not enough! mainly due to the assessor writing the complete opposite to what i said in her report. So I requested a mandatory reconsideration in June and have been waiting till about a week ago when I recieved a letter saying they have all the info they need to make a decision and I don't need to contact them which I already recieved the same letter before the first decision was made. Then recieved the phone call yesterday which was unexpected but hopefully its positive news.

I've never heard of them sending that letter at MR stage, this is the first time so thanks for explaining that. Hopefully, it's good news for you and you'll be in that 23% that have the MR decision go in their favour.

Can anyone clarify at the MR stage if everyone that's been awarded pip has had a random phone call asking to confirm bank details are still the same and if they've been in hospital or prison. If you've had this call and been awarded how long after the call have you recieved a text confirming the award? I had the call on Wednesday but haven't recieved a text as of yet.

If texts are sent (first time claim only) for a successful award they are usually sent out the morning after the decision was made and usually just after 8am. This applies to MR decisions too. If it's a review then they don't usually send award texts, even for MR decisions.

It's best not to submit a MR by phone, because you can't be sure what you tell them on the phone is being written down correctly.

In writing by post is the way we recommend on here.

    Hi

    Ok thank you

How do you do that please ?

And what address is it sent to.

It should be sent to the address on your decision letter.

You need to write down why you disagree with the decision, where you should have scored points and why.

MR has a very low success rate, the next stage is an independent appeal tribunal hearing where the odds increase. Sometimes too the DWP make a pre hearing offer.

Do seek help & support from local welfare rights organisation should it proceed to tribunal.

Do you need a special form or just a letter

You can just write a letter, be sure to say you are requesting an MR.

    Hi

Does the letter requesting an MR need to be made within 1 month of the decision letter?

    Hi

    Yes it does.

It was written on the 10th but arrived Friday 17th

Ideally yes, however you can still ask for a MR after one month (up to 13 months) but if it's outside the month you need to give a reason as to why it's "late".
