Occupational health letter on home arrived

It arrived. The assessment is a letter from occupational therapy that we have to move. We currently live in HA. My husband has been ill for 5 years. So far, the Agency has not approved any renovations, repairs or replacements. Even then, the house was too small when we moved, but we had to accept it. We now live in Basildon and the letter says we have to move to a larger, barrier-free house. However, we would go from Basildon to Nottingham because we have friends there who can help. This is also in the letter. How does this work, what is the process?

You will need to apply for social housing in Nottingham by filling out a form to add your name to this list. However, most social/council housing landlords have a rule that you need to have either lived in the area for X amount of years or have a local connection to the area you want to live. I don't know if friends would come under local connection. You will need to contact the Local Authority to ask what their rules are or look them up on their website.

The official guidelines for local connections RE Family/Friends

“You have a local connection if any of these close relatives have lived in a council area for at least 5 years:

Parents

Brother/Sister

Adult Children”

Friends wouldn’t count as a local connection to the area.

It doesn’t appear that an occupational health assessment can override the rules but it’s worth contacting the council you wish to move to and see if there’s any sort of wiggle room
