I wish I could do the claim this Wednesday, the date that I get paid an ESA, but the advisors from Citizens Advice HTC have been adamant that it’s better to do the claim the day after an ESA payment, which is the Thursday. This is so my run on ESA payment, which should be on 19 Feb, is for the usual fortnightly amount of £318.10. @Kimmy87

My ESA pays £318.10 because I don’t get the Severe Disability Premium.

Because my claim is being done on the 6th of February, my assessment periods will be 6th - 5th each month.

I’ll be getting two payments per month because I’ll be requesting an APA. It’s better for me that my overall UC entitlement gets split into two payments each month. I can’t budget!

My claim will be a telephone claim. I’m not bothered in the slightest that I will not have access to an online account or an online journal.

After this run on payment, there mustn’t be any more ESA payments before my first UC statement or there’d be a deduction to my first UC payment. That’s what the super knowledgeable Poppy ❤️💗♥️ has pointed out to me previously. That mustn’t happen to me, I just wouldn’t be happy. I’d be furious. 😡 @Kimmy87

You’re not supposed to get anything else from Income Related Employment and Support Allowance after the 2 week run on payment. 😡

ESA just need to get my SG status sent across to UC (I know they’ll do that at some point after 6th Feb 📆🗓️📅), give me the run on payment, and get my claim CLOSED DOWN.

The last day of my first assessment period will be 5th March and on that day, I’ll want to know that the maths 🧮 office haven’t f***** 😡😡😡😡 up with my payments. @Kimmy87

My claim is supposed to be a simple one. Even I could calculate my payments correctly and I don’t even work for UC!

Citizens Advice HTC have said they can be on the phone ☎️ with me when I want to know how my payments have been calculated. One of their advisors will also be on the phone 📞 with me when I do a call a few weeks after 6th Feb to check that I have LCWRA status. @Kimmy87

I’m 30 years old and single, so I should be getting the Standard Allowance for being a single person and over 25 and the LCRWA element because I’ll have migrated across from the ESA Support Group. @Kimmy87

You wouldn’t think that claiming on the day of an Income Related ESA payment would make a difference to the run on payment but CA Help to Claim have said that it would make a difference. It is what it is. I’d rather my run on payment be for the amount that I get every fortnight, £318.10. Therefore, I’m just waiting the extra 24 hours then do the claim this Thursday, the 6th of February. It’s only 1 extra day.

I’m still getting the ball rolling this week. 👍👍👍👍👍

When my claim is up and running, I’ll be largely left alone, as has been the case on ESA. I’ve been in the SG on Income Related ESA since the year 2014. They’ve never really pestered me for anything and, for someone with no commitments to look for work, I’d expect that.

it still amazes me that it takes around 2 weeks for UC to retrieve the information from the ESA systems! Are they using those old acorn BBC Micro computer systems from the 1980’s?

By the way online community members, you might be wondering if I’ve received a migration notice? No I haven’t, I am doing a voluntary migration, and this is because what I’ll get on UC will be higher than my biweekly ESA amount. I’ll be financially better off. I’m in a position where I don’t have to wait for a letter ✉️.

I’ll just be getting two 2️⃣ payments a month because a twice monthly frequency is better for me. I don’t have the skills to budget - that’s linked to my autism diagnosis. I can’t just accept a greater entitlement compared to my ESA but less frequent payments!

I absolutely agree with this @Drausus it shouldn’t take a few weeks. We’re in the year 2025, technology is meant to be wonderful these days but as claimants, we can’t help what happens with the computer systems. 💻🖥️⌨️🧑‍💻👩‍💻👨‍💻

A UC claim gets updated eventually but I’ll still be wanting to know that UC have got those SG details, and I’ll be getting an update on this a few weeks after my claim date 6/2/2025.

This’ll be done over the phone 📱 with a UC general helpline advisor and a Citizens Advice Help to Claim advisor.

I’d like to think I’ll be fine 👍✅✔️☑️.

Citizens Advice Help to Claim Service are going to be here for me up until my first correct payment. I will not be alone. That’s their job anyway, to be there for claimants moving across from the ESA SG.

My claim will be a telephone-based claim ☎️📞. The majority of UC claims will be online based but sometimes you just can’t beat the old-fashioned ways.

il be aiming for a telephone claim also, I will find the online claim to overwhelming, plus I don’t want to feel like I need to check a journal everyday!

For telephone 📱 claims, every time someone has a query on their claim they’ll have to call UC. Also, if there’s anything important that needs to be dealt with, they’ll also have to give UC a ring. But I don’t mind this.

I do know my technology 💻… it’s not like I am totally useless. I buy things on the web 🛜 but for my bank 🏦 account I choose to be more basic.

If I had my bank’s app, I’d be wanting to check what each button does. My mind would get the better of me. I’d end up cancelling all of my direct debits, which wouldn’t be good… obviously! 😂

People can go on about the online journal as much as they want. They can use an online account if it’s for them but it’s not for me.

I’d rather communicate with Universal Credit over the phone! ☎️📞📱📲

I got an ESA payment today which is less than usual (£272 instead of £318), I'm assuming this'll be the final payment you're entitled to in the two weeks after you claim UC? Is it normal for it to be less than usual? You don't need to pay it back or anything and it's not deducted from your UC?

I've been doing a bit of research tonight, and by my calculations when you move to UC from ESA Support Group, you get £809? So I will be a lot better off?

Its disgraceful the way they make you wait five flaming weeks. Thank God I live with family because I don't think I'd cope alone.

Yes it's normal for it to be less than a full fortnighy payment.

No that payment won't be deducted from your UC nor do you have to repay it.

UC with LCWRA pays more than ESA Support Group when your ESA didn't include the SDP, which your didn't based on the amount of ESA you received.

Due to the 2 week run on of ESA the wait for your first UC payment is only about 3 weeks. You can of course request an advance payment for UC but this does need to be repaid back.
