Emotions after ASD assessment

Hello All,
Following two telephone discussions with a clinical psychologist, I had my first face to face evaluation towards (or not) a diagnosis of ASD. I went as my awful self. I didn't struggle to mask. The experience was very positive and I came home happy, although physically exhausted and in a lot of pain. Today, I feel mentally burned out and can't stop crying. Is this "normal" or just the "me" I hate being?

Hi @Zipz You will have been very stressed before your face to face evaluation. It went well and you were happy with the result.
Today you are feeling drained from the whole experience which can make you emotional.
I do not think it is the "me" you hate being.
You did really well going for the face to face do not be so hard on yourself.
Take care.

Hi @Zipz that's a big thing to prepare for, and to go through so you're bound to be feeling a lot of emotions which does tend to take it's toll physically too. I know it's not the same but when I have my therapy sessions for my complex trauma, it really takes it's toll on me (tears and self blame) and often takes day's until I feel back to myself. Please don't be too hard on yourself and remember to be kind to yourself. 💛

@Catherine21 Hi. It matters a lot to me to get a diagnosis. Assuming the results confirm ASD it makes sense of my life. I'm not doing this for benefits. My main disability is physical. It's to do with self-acceptance and an understanding of my general "weirdness" since early childhood. I expect to get a result by April. If it's positive I'm having a wee celebration 🍾

Hi @Catherine21 My decision to get assessed was quite sudden, following a crisis. I was aware of waiting times and knew I couldn't afford to wait. I therefore often to go privately. I don't think I could cope with years of waiting at this stage of my life.
