Strange Journal message "you are not getting any of these benefits" after ESA migration application.

Im currently on income base ESA(support group) and housing benefit. I received a migration letter telling me tpclaim universal credit by 26th feb. Ive done so, and today attended an identity check appointment at the local jobecente. However now in the journal there is a new entry.
"Some benefits can affect how much Universal Credit you receive. Our records show that you are not getting any of these benefits." and then a list of benefits including "Employment and Support Allowance"
I am on income based ESA. Have they messed this up?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Was part of your ESA contributions based? If it was then this will continue but be reverted to New style ESA. Many people think their ESA is all income Related but find out it was part CB when claiming UC. If it is then you will receive a letter from ESA at some point to tell you it's reverting to New style.
You will receive £276.40/fortnight from ESA but this will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement at a rate of £598.86/month. It seems more than you receive but for UC there's 4.3 weeks in a month and not 4 weeks.
Don't be alarmed if you receive a letter from ESA asking you to provide fit notes and needing to attend an assessment. Neither of those will be needed.

hello poppy and thank you for replying.
Its definitely income based as i have never worked sadly, i currently get £318.10 fortnightly. I have left a message in the journal asking for clarification, will anyone actually read and respond to it? Does this sound like an error or is this just a generic message everyone who migrates gets? I had anticipated incompetence I had even put in capitals on the journal that this was not a new claim but a migration from ESA support group.

It's not an error message, it's a standard message. Some people migrate from ESA and it's part contributions based as I explained above. When this happens that ESA reverts to New style ESA and is deducted in full from any UC entitlement.
If all of your ESA was definitely Income Related then there will be no deductions.
To be clear, not everyone has worked, your ESA could be part contributions based if you were previously claiming Incapacity benefit in youth, or even ESA in youth.

Thank you again. I was on Incapacity benefit before they moved me ESA. Its an unbroken continuous claim.
My word this is so confusing. Ive never even heard of "new style ESA" do i have to claim this too or will this be done for me? Sorry for all the questions, i just having trouble finding the info on what to do online.
Back to the original query. Why is this in my journal? when i am in fact i am getting ESA? does it mean they cancelled my ESA before sending the journal message?

You don't need to do anything, the ESA will change automatically behind the scenes so to speak.
There is one appointment to agree commitments, usually by phone, it will be a very brief call as your only commitment will be to keep them informed of any changes.

As you were previously claim Incapacity benefit then at least part of your ESA would have been contributions based. As I advised, there's many people that didn't know their ESA was part CB. Many thought it was all Income Related but when they migrated to UC they found out it wasn't.
As I advised in my first comment, you do not need to claim it. Your CB ESA will automatically revert to it. Payments for this will continue at a rate of £276.40/fortnight but it will be deducted in full from your UC. Please see my very first comment.
Your ESA will be paid fortnightly as normal but at a slightly lower rate and UC tops up your income once a month.
The reason that message is on your journal is because New style ESA affects UC because it's deducted in full at a rate of £598.86/month. Please see my first comment.
You will at some point receive a letter from ESA. It will ask you to provide a fit note but please ignore that because it's not needed. You will not need another assessment because you'll automatically be placed into the Support Group. You will also need to agree to your claimant commitments but this can be done through a telephone call and you will receive an appointment for that.

I don't think you understand where my confusion lies. It feels like im asking one question and you are both answering another lol.
The message on the journal states im not getting ESA and that is clearly not true, and that is where my confusion lies, and i still don't understand why they would say im not getting ESA when i am. Unless
A) They cancelled my ESA because of my new UC claim and then sent the message.
B) Its a badly worded generic message they send to everyone regardless of circumstances. Not unlike your anticipation of me letter from ESA asking for a fit note when i don't need to do it.
C) Im a pillock and missing something glaringly obvious to you two but not to me lol. This is plausible i do have chronic fatigue.
How do i know what i legitimately need to do or not do if they send me things i don't need to do and are not relevant to me. Its a confusing mess.
Im sure you are used to seeing all this many times over and just see it as the "way it is" However, to my new eyes it looks like a mistake has been made. That being said.. you seem confident everything is fine, so ill wait and see, and i really need to lie down!
I really do appreciate the time you have took replying to me. thank you :-)

I think UC have stuffed up with that message, as you were on Incapacity Benefit you were definitely on CB & IR ESA when you transferred to UC.
They should have put a message saying that you are getting one of those benefits.
The switch to NS ESA will happen automatically and you should receive some correspondence about it.

Did you get it sorted as I’ve receive the same message and like you am on ESA Support Group

Ive had a letter saying my housing benefit has been cancelled, and another that my esa has been cancelled. There is a message on the webpage saying ill find out much ill get on 20th Feb. No ones replied to my journal message. Why bother having it if they dont use it? What a useless unhelpful system.

this is what a dwp worker told me on Reddit about why you get the message
hope it helps

Both of those things are correct.
HB & IR ESA end as soon as you claim UC.
You will receive one more payment of both, known as the run on payment.
This won't impact your UC payment.
For UC each payment is calculated based on your circumstances for the previous calender month. This is known as the Assessment Period.
1-3 days after the end of your AP a statement will be issued, showing you how much you will be paid.

As you said you were claiming Incapacity benefit before ESA which was an unbroken claim, I would expect part of your ESA to have been contributions based. This part should continue but be reverted to New Style ESA and paid at a lower rate. If it was definitely all Income Related then there must have been a break in your claim at some point.
Housing benefit and Income Related ESA both end 2 weeks after you submit a claim to UC. Your payments will now be through UC in one monthly payment.
When you don't have a work coach, messages very often go unanswered until near to your statement date and then someone may see it.

Thanks for that. So a badly worded message then, which they could have easily fixed to prevent confusion, but no one cares enough to bother.
Thanks to all that replied. :-)

Are these the claimant commitments for if you are on the LWCRA just confused as if mentioned work.

Yes, that will be LCWRA and it's the same for my daughter who also has this.

Thank you so much for clarifying

Well it all seems to have worked ok, i can seem the amount ill receive when i login now. i never got a reply to the my question just an identical generic message as the first.
Im some how £200 a month better off on UC! which is nice, however, i really don't like taking more money than i need, i was fine on the amount i had. I double checked i have everything correct. I think £40 of that was until now i hadn't told them of my rent increase last year.

That is correct, from a previous comment you didn't get the Severe Disability Premium with your ESA, so UC in those circumstances pays more. It's approx £40 per week more so that and your rent increase adds up to £200.
You are entitled by law to that money, I'm sure you can find a use for it to make your life easier 😊
