Is there any way the scaremongering can be stopped

I really wish we as a community could stop the newspapers reporting on benefits until after announcements made. They seem to be constantly causing people on pip stress.

Could scope give the press a statement stating how much stress they are causing?

Hi @Sharebear hope your ok, the media don't help trying to hype things up to get everyone rattled. I personally skip those posts, if it's not been confirmed by gov it's not happening. I hope someone from scope replies to you soon .

    Hi Sandy_123

I try to skip them but sometimes end up down a rabbit hole.

Yeah it's easy done but it will drive you crazy if you believe everything. That's why unless it's out of gov office, then it's just might be, could be.

Once what they decide is confirmed then that's the time to talk about it.

Maybe then the media should stop publishing about wars, global warming, crimes, disasters? This also worries many people.

I think the media are responsible for alot of issues they hype it up. Yes they should stop reporting on all you have mentioned.

I'm not against it being properly reported just all the twists they take

They anger me so much, commentators on gb news, Jeremy vine etc saying stuff they know nothing about, it's good for you to do something or if you can move around the house you can do something etc, not knowing personal circumstances especially about mental health. Feel like throwing brick at TV.

What gets me angry is this view that mental illness is a play act or a put on, that it doesn't exist.

    That viewpoint is very dangerous.

Probably not, sadly the solution is to stop reading the news, which I know is easier said than done.

The bbc news app lets you pick specific sections under my news, so you could exclude things like politics, although it doesnt help if your MP is a minister for the DWP as that would be there as news for your post code.

I do agree it is way too intense, I thought all the Trump events would give us a break from it all, but nope articles sourced from Reeves were appearing, I think the government sources a lot of it, and they wont let the matter drop as it has become a major ideological thing for the Labour party leadership.

I'm hoping that the cuts aren't as damaging as they are being portrayed. I battled for 20 odd years with my depression/ anxiety. I was on diazapam to get on a bus prior to covid. I worked as long as I could as I thought it would be better for me. Now I barely leave my flat. I have other issues too on top but I'm sure they won't care all parties never make the general public majority any better off.

Hi @Sharebear bless you, I hope you're doing ok today.

Hopefully we'll receive a bit more clarity during the announcement today but it's important to remember this is just the very initial proposals and there'll be a period of consultation etc. allowing us an opportunity to respond to these.

Don't forget you've got the community here and we'll support one another during this time. 💛

I hope you don't mind but to keep the community a safe space, we're encouraging all discussions on benefit changes to stay in one place. For that reason, we’ll be closing this discussion, but we’d love for you to join the main discussion thread here: Upcoming changes to benefits.
