I'm for a reforming of the benefits system, I'm for tailored support for disabled people who feel that they could enter or re-enter the job market but I'm against demonising disabled people, I'm very angry and upset at this blatant ableism which has been given the "ok" by the government and the media.
How many millions of disabled people are in Britain? How many of them have family and friends? That's a big cohort if you add them up together. Labour, the Tories, Reform, the conservative/right aligned media are NOT in the majority on this and despite their BS, the British public will see this as morally and ethically abhorrent if the lives of disabled people are made to be a further hell.

The issue with transitional protection is that people were forced to migrate over from legacy benefits, in my case four months ago. I have just received LCWRA and had my transitional protection reduced by £416. When they reduce or scrap LCWRA they won't reinstate people's transitional protection. It looks as though everybody on legacy was forced to migrate, given TP and then LCWRA losing their transitional protection and they will come in and take the LCWRA effectively stealing our transitional protection. Nothing shocks me anymore. I never thought I would say it but the Tories were not even as harsh as this, they at least gave cost of living payments during COVID and didn't take the winter fuel allowance from the elderly. I think the Conservatives to an extent tread carefully so they are not called labelled cruel by opposition and media. I worry people are not going to call Labour out enough and the people who do, their voices will get lost.
I don't like Tories or Labour but I didn't think Labour would go after the most vulnerable in society. All of us are one diagnosis or accident away from being disabled and when you are disabled, you feel vulnerable and helpless to an extent and already feel a burden on family and now we are being very publically made to feel a burden to society and targeted by the very people who should be protecting us.

I’m new to this forum, I found it after having a series of rolling panic attacks. I have bipolar disorder which became so bad in 2020 that I developed agoraphobia. I don't feel like I have the strength to fight this government or these cuts.
Every time I've tried to even volunteer, the stress has ended up with me taking antipsychotics. The will is there but my mind cannot cope.
I'm currently being switched from ESA to UC, and I'm so frightened for the future. I wish the government would talk to us, listen to us. We are human beings, and for us, work will not set us free.

You are so right. I worked as much and as long as I could. It crippled my 'normal' life, even at school I was always an alien. Now, nearing pension age, I just want some peace. Not riches, not unending happiness - just peace

I’m confused regarding the migration. I’m on legacy esa and assumed I would get an increase when I transition over as I’m not able to claim severe disability premiums. Are you saying when you transition over you don’t really get the TP and lose over £400.
I remember the relief when Tory’s were voted out but omg I’d give anything for them to come back into power. All main parties are against us with no opposition to their plans. The only think we can hope for is if this is delayed for as long as possible as they won’t get a second term surely.

My situation is when I migrated over from legacy I was given £500 TP and as soon as I was awarded LCWRA my TP was reduced by £416 so now my TP is £84. If they reduce or scrap LCWRA and don't reinstate TP then I will be down £416 per month. It feels as if this is a way to get rid of TP which they didn't want to give to people in the first place. It feels very deliberate but maybe I am overthinking it and it won't be as bad as I think it will and maybe they will reinstate people's TP but I don't hold out much hope.

weren’t the dwp taken to court in the last couple of years for not honouring the correct TP amount after managed migration and the upper tribunal ordered them to sort it out and pay people the correct TP?
Another member or mod will know for sure.
But dealing with dwp 101 - they often make financial mistakes in award calculations & payments and it’s up to the claimant to get on and stay on their case to make sure they correct things (and as this is the dwp don’t be surprised if it takes a month of Sundays!)
Also I believe those on esa wrag may also have severe and enhanced disability elements on their award and be pre 2017? legacy wrag claimants (when Osborne lowered new wrag claimants to the same award amount as jsa - pre existing wrag esa claimants higher award amount was and still is protected) - point I’m making is that esa wrag group under going managed migration may also have TP (once again if a mod or member with policy knowledge can double check the above as I’m not a solid 100% sure)

Transitional Protection is designed to top up your UC award at the time of transfer, if legacy benefits were of a higher amount.
TP stops through a major change of circumstances such as swapping between a single/couple claim.
TP reduces with the annual benefit rises, or with the award of a new element which is what happened with Lou. They were awarded LCWRA so their TP reduced by the same amount.

I know the courts ordered TP to be paid but when you receive another benefit in my case LCWRA they then reduce your TP by the amount of the new benefit so currently I get LCWRA £416 per month and TP of £84. If they reduce or scrap LCWRA they should reinstate people's TP but given they are trying to save as much money as possible I cannot see them reinstating it.
They didn't want to give it to people in the first place so I cannot see them giving it back to people. I hope I am wrong as the loss of it would be devastating for everybody affected.

I’m on legacy ESA and pip with no severe disability premiums as I have an adult child at home . From what I read going over to LCWRA uc I should get more as I wasn’t getting the SDP anyway . Is this correct ? Although it could all change by the time I get my migration letter of course .

Yes, UC Standard Allowance +LCWRA pays £809.64.
The monthly ESA equivalent is £689.21.
So you are better off.

I’d prefer Sunak back tbh . I think he would have backed down to stay in power. Starmer is a psychopath imo. But this nasty lot they must realise or have advisors telling them that they’ll be losing slot of voters . Elderly , farmers, disabled, who’s left to vote for them next time ?

I think they will be finished off next election. I just can’t see who’s vote for them. They only got voted in this time as a protest as ppl were fed up of Tory’s imo

I don’t think they have any ideas of their own, just copying the Tory’s . Only difference is Starmer is psychopathic with no empathy . He played a blinder though fooling ppl into thinking he was Mr flip flop who couldn’t make up his mind or say in the fence. What an actor. There was always something about him that I just didn’t like or trust .

Just emailed my local labour mp.
This is the second time ,because I emailed a couple of months ago regarding cuts to benefits. But they never got back to me.
I've not 'held back' in the email but did manage to keep it somewhat respectful.
