Hi my name is Steve
I have suffered for years with bad knees
and most recently gout attacks
I have plucked up the courage to use my company’s health insurance after 41 years service for the 1st time
I have become very slow at my job over the last 2 years as it envolves visiting houses around estates checking on work at hand and I am not now able to climb ladders comfortably or safe.to check roof works.
I am worried about how I will manage at home after the 1st operation. Eg toilet washing and cooking. My wife and daughter are both managers of well know retailers and are not able to give me all the support I am going to need.So I wondered am I correct in asking for Pip payment I have never claimed anything in my life but I know now I will need help now for the next 12 months or more. I have also filled in a form for a disabled parking badge as this would help if I am entitled to it .
can you advise on the filling out of the pip form as I am having one knee replaced 1st and the other as soon as I can to get rid of the pain.
is there anything else I should claim for?
any help no matter how small will be much appreciated
regards
steve

Hello there @Cshvkhshsh22 and welcome to the community, thanks for introducing yourself and explaining what's been happening.
I'm not sure when your 1st operation is due, so can I ask- have you spoken to your local authority about a needs assessment? You can self refer for practical support at home, and for personal care day to day.
If you'd like to find out more about how to apply to PIP, Scope has some advice and guidance. If you are successful in claiming PIP you might then be entitled to free bus travel, and discounted train travel.
If we've missed anything please do say, and we'll be happy to help

Hi @Cshvkhshsh22 - & welcome to the community. With PIP you need to have had difficulties with certain activities of daily living &/mobility for at least 3 months, & expect them to last for a further 9 months. PIP isn't based on any diagnoses rather if you struggle to do such activities safely. Have a look at these activities here:
Also check this benefits calculator to see if any other benefits may apply such as new style ESA: https://benefits-calculator.turn2us.org.uk/
About ESA: https://www.gov.uk/employment-support-allowance/eligibility
Following your surgery, an Occupational Therapist may send you home with a raised toilet seat if needed.
