Hello @themajor and welcome to the community, thanks for posting today. Just so I understand fully, you've mentioned the DWP rang you the other day about backdated payment, is that right?

How are you feeling about it?

It will be paid from when you became entitled to it. You haven't given enough of information for anyone to be able to advise further. Once a decision is made then you'll be sent the decision letter.

I don't think ESA will be able to apply SDP for IS but you'll have wait and see.

Hi @themajor I'm glad you're feeling okay about it, as you can see our members have a lot of knowledge in this area, so if you still have questions, please do ask.

I hope you'll hear more from the DWP in due course, fingers crossed it'll be sorted and the payment will come through soon for you :)

Sometimes people get the payment before they receive their letter, but either way it's positive to hear they are working on it!

We won't be able to tell you anything about what is owed or when it's paid from, only DWP can tell you that. If you're unsure when it's paid from you can either ring them again to ask or wait for the decision letter.

Whether you were entitled to SDP before 2018 will totally depend on your circumstances during all those previous years.  I'd advise you to get some expert advice from an agency near you. If they say you should have been claiming it in previous years you can request the Mandatory Reconsideration. (MR)

You said you were claiming PIP from 2016/17 and claiming DLA before that. It depends what awards you had, whether you lived alone or with others, did anyone claim either carers allowance or carers element of Universal Credit for looking after you.

Any other income, such as working partner, pensions, savings/capital. Lots of things to consider, which is why i advised to speak to an advice agency. Sometimes it's too complex for an internet forum.

Was this before 2018? If so were they a dependant or non dependant? If a non dependant were they either claiming a qualifying disability their self such as daily living PIP or DLA mid/high rate care or were they registered blind?
