Ash Wednesday

With Shrove Tuesday comes Ash Wednesday and many people whether religious or not, decide to give something up for Lent.

For those who are religious, they may take a more orthodox and traditional approach by fasting strictly, abstaining from meat, fish, eggs and fats until Easter Sunday. A more modern approach, some give up a luxury food or drink and some abstain from things like social media or game consoles.

Although not strictly religious, I do always give something up for lent. But with a good 15 years under my belt of doing this, I'm finding it tricky to give something up I haven't before.

If you are taking part or were asked to take part, what would you give up?

Some people give up certain 'behaviours' such as saying negative things about others,  or doing certain things, for example, rather than giving up a food item...

@SueHeath I have lots of books too. I am going to give up exhausting myself trying to please everyone all the time and concentrate on my own mental and physical health as I have been getting more and more unwell over the past year... hope that doesn't sound selfish!

That's great @Harmony93! I have seen many people put themselves first for lent, it isn't selfish at all. If you ever need anyone to talk to about your mental health, SHOUT are a fantastic organisation.

I'm giving up two things for Lent, chasing rabbits and caviar.

Very nice @janer1967 I've always wanted to visit Rye in East Sussex :)

I'm not overly religious either @Ada but it's something I've done since I was a child. We were asked to give something up in school and I definitely agree people should give up certain behaviours!

@Sandy_123 My friend has never done lent either and I asked her, is there something you would find difficult to give up, if you were asked to for lent? Is there something you also think would be difficult? She said cups of tea  :D

With only 8 days left of Lent, I wanted to comment on this and ask how people have been getting on?!

I currently have about 50 books in "save for later" sections of shopping baskets :D but I still haven't broken. I have actually found it very difficult. I did not realise how many times I click "add to cart" out of boredom or stress. Managed to put more away in savings this last month!
