Well done @Hannah_Scope keep at it, not too much longer to go! I haven't given anything up for lent myself, but I admire anyone who's up for giving it a go0
-
I have managed not to touch chocolate this lent.0
-
Well done @durhamjaide2001! I won't even be tempting to try that one, I don't have the resilience to not eat chocolate0
-
@Alex_Scope My bank account will be taking a hit soon!
@durhamjaide2001That's amazing! I couldn't do that myself.0 -
Dark chocolate is the best. I carried out an independent survey, just me, I can confirm it is the best.2
-
@rebell I am not a fan *hides* I've recently had a bout of eating white chocolate again, that's been nostalgic as well as tasty!0
-
I am going to give up on abstinence. I have been far too good for far too long, so need a well deserved break!2
-
@Steve_in_The_City An interesting break!
@Beaver79 Oh wow! Lent actually ends on the 8th so I say cake for Saturday and Sunday!1 -
Question is @Beaver79 Do you buy one cake and split it over two days or buy two different cakes for each day? oooo Maybe 3? Can't forget Easter Monday!1
-
You have to treat yourself @Beaver791

It didn't take long at all!0 -
@Hannah_Scope You are so intellectual! I only read cookery books as I have problems with the smell of newsprint so can't linger over a plot. That said, I never hit the gidddying heights of authorship that you transcribe to! For me it was Enid Blyton and The Famous Five and The Secret Severn; and the Master of Illusion and Imagination J.J.R. Tolkien. The Hobbit (known as the Hippies Bible) is a book I grew up with and read many times. It is a wondrous journey in to the oblique and surreal, but seems true and somehow relevant. When I could stand newsprint I read the book over and over again. I have a copy now but can't read it. The story of The Hobbit is how good triumphs over evil. Tolkien knew how to speak to children and made their lives better. Well it did for me anyway.0
-
Haha well if you knew me @Steve_in_The_City that opinion would change
I love The Hobbit, I go back and read that now and then, although I have an old paperback version which is falling apart, so may pick it up in hardback. It's such a shame you have issues with the smell of newsprint as it's one of my favourites, the smell of a new book!
Do you read via kindle or any other book app?0 -
Hi @Hannah_Scope I don't particularly like Kindle, but have a few Kindle cookery books. It is not the same as having a hard back book but I have to compromise and accept and understand that I can no longer deal with newsprint. I also have to accept that I can't concentrate anymore. So having a read of a book is fairly difficult for me! Yet I get by and manage.
When I was a kid I wanted to be a writer and I did win writing competitions. Then as an adult I always worked in commutative roles, being an editor etc. Those days are finished. Life throws tripe at you and that is that.0 -
Hey @Steve_in_The_City It's such a shame you cant deal with newsprint anymore, I hope things change where you can deal with it, or another medium can be available I sometimes listen to the audiobook as well as read the physical book. I like seeing local libraries offer more audiobooks.
It is such a shame, I bet you have some great stories from your editing days.0 -
I finished all my Easter chocolate now0
-
I have a small bit left that will end up being finished today0
