Hi @tigertracey74 nice to see you posting again after a break, so many people come on here then just leave I was worried you wouldn't be back. I hope you are recovering well from the flu.
I know what you mean about not having many hobbies, I find it hard to get into anything myself, just spend most of my spare time on the computer. If you come across anything new you will have to let me know.1 -
Hello @tigertracey74 how you doing, If you like reading i can give you a list as long as your arm, just let us know what sort of thing you like?0

I like true crime and a big fan of Stephen King0

@tigertracey74
what Stephen King books would you recommend? I'm a big book fan but have never read anything of his. I watched Misery last week and enjoyed it so thinking of giving some of his books a go1 -

I haven't read any Stephen King For years, that's given me another author to get back into. @tigertracey74, I recently read Patricia Cornwell's book about Jack the Ripper called Ripper, a friend of mine goes round all the Charity shops and he picked this up for 25p, I found it a good read but i don't think we will ever truly know who he really was?2

I love Stephen King's IT @tigertracey74You'll have to join us over in The Book Nook, you too @Ema_Scope let us know if you decided to read any Stephen King
@Wilshyboy That's a great bargain! I studied Criminology and Psychology at university. Some of the theories on Jack the Ripper fit certain suspects so well. It is like you said, something we may never truly know!2 -
I'm really interested in psychology, although ended up choosing philosophy over it. I imagine psychology and criminology overlap really well? My Dad used to be a detective and often explained how he had to look for explicit or physical evidence but I was always more interested in getting into the mind of the suspect. Out of curiosity what made you work for Scope instead of law enforcement or something like that?

Yeah it was a really interesting course I wanted to work for the police but was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis after graduation. I unfortunately couldn't do the job physically and it was very hard getting a job behind the scenes without at least having community support officer experience.
I originally studied forensics at 6 form level but like your dad, was interested in getting into the mind of a suspect. How long was he a detective for?0 -
Oh, that makes sense. Yes I think the police is a bit like the army in that everyone has to do the basics before specialising, even if they are not going to be working on the front line. It's a shame they can't make exceptions.
Do you have a "favourite" villain from history?
My Dad was in the police for his full 30 years, after which you used to get kicked out! That might have changed now, though. I think he did his detective training about 5 years in so 25 years maybe.

I wanted to work in missing persons or combating human trafficking, which would have needed "field" experience unfortunately.
It's hard to have a "favourite" but Egyptian crimes interest me so much. Back then, you'd have the vizier who was essentially, second in power to the pharaoh. He would be judge, jury and executioner. I don't think we think about ancient history having a "court" system.
Wow! that's amazing and I feel like it's kind of the unwritten rule, but instead they retire you into an office position.0
