National Poetry Day
The Forward Arts Association set up National Poetry Day in 1994 to celebrate poetry and to spread it to a wider audience. I am sure many of us remember having to go through many poems in school for English, perhaps back then wondering why we were bothering with such passage. I know I now look back at those passages as an adult and really see the meaning behind them.
Ways to celebrate today are:
- Read a poem of course!
- Write a poem, share it here if you feel up to doing so!
- Share with us your favourite poem
National Poetry Day selected a number of poems to showcase this year. I'll post one here for you all to read with me
On the Move Again from Somewhere by Michael Rosen
You gotta go.
No time to grieve
You just gotta leave.
Get away from the pain
On the move again.
Take the train.
Catch a plane.
Make the trip
In a ship.
Take a hike.
Ride a bike.
Go by car.
Going far.
Use your feet
On the street.
Get stuck
In a truck.
Then you arrive.
And you’re alive.
You arrive.
You’re alive.
What you leave behind
Won’t leave your mind.
But home is where you find it.
Home is where you find it.
Home is where you find it.
Home is where you find it
I hope you all enjoy a poem today, do post below a favourite of yours, or write your own!

Can you write a poem.
SEASONS.
The summer season is almost over
The trees are changing colour.
But instead of becoming bare
There’s one more burst of colour.
The light and dark greens, a show of summer colour
Has changed to orange, yellow and a umber colour
These trees don’t seem that dormant, with their Autum coat
it’s just one more chance, to show boat all that colour
I can’t say which season I like
Because, they all have things to give
But look forward to each change
As the scenery, changes each year.
I like the mountains in light brown with a tinge of blue
The cold wind lessen, as the snow begins to melt
The sun warm glow, it gets in every where
Which tells me its spring time, and the start of another year
I like the light and dark greens and spring bursts into colour
Then the adding of the colored flowers, as summer says I’m here
rolls along, that warming sun, its pretty warm right now
as summer ripens all the fruit, and flowers have burst into colour.
Now we are here in Autumn the colour has changed again,
And what was green and tender shoots, have flowered and turned brown in color
That’s OK the colors are so rich, yellows, orange warmed up by the summer sun.
As fast as it got warm that blast of winter air, heralds a chill is about to come.
The gusty cold wind, summer has long gone
There’s no more warming glow, instead there’s flurry’s of that winter snow
The driving snow collects, in corners and in the shady parts
Which was an abundance of Blue Bells, now all covered in snow.
I’ve looked out my bedroom window, every day a different view
and still I marvel at the same countryside, that picture on display
It makes me realise that mother nature, is looking out for me
Cause she give me something to look forward to, each and every day of the year.
