Editing comments

I’ve just noticed that the ability to edit our comments has changed from 59 minutes to just 15 minutes. Anyone else notice this?
Is there any reason for this? It’s extremely annoying having an even shorter time to do this. I edit comments quite a lot if I miss any information out when I first comment.

I noticed this too, I edit my comments a lot as well as I am quite forgetful when I write things.
Lots of forums I am on you can edit whenever you want, even a year later.
I guess there's a reason for it, maybe to stop people posting something then sneaking spam into their post a week later, but not sure.0 -
I'll look into this, I haven't been aware of any changes.
There are reasons we limit how long edits can be made yes, there's a number of ways editing much older posts can unfortunately be misused/abused.0 -
I to think 15 minutes is no time at all, the hour sometimes wasn’t long enough.0

Hi folks, thanks for letting us know. We've had a look into it and it looks like the platform we use had a bit of a funny five minutes and decided 15 mins was plenty of time. This will be remedied soon.
But as Jimm has said, we do need to keep a limit on how long people can edit for, as people have abused the system in the past. So we're just wanting to keep everyone safe.2 -
Thanks for raising this and for everyone's feedback. We're looking at resolving this as soon as possible. Hopefully you should see it resolved by the end of the week.2

I'm taking this to literally mean the ability to edit a comment will return to 60 mins, i.e. the problem with the platform will be 'solved' soon? I thinker longer edits were considered potentially problematic, but not hopefully 60 mins (tho I've seen instances!), but appreciate that some sort of compromise must have been made some time ago.

Yes, went down to 15 minutes but nothing today0 -
Hey everyone, we are trying to get this resolved. Those with the Disability Gamechanger rank should have 60 minutes to edit their posts. We do not want the timer set at just 15 minutes. We had no plans to change it from 60 minutes at all, we certainly see no need to reduce it anymore than 60 minutes.0

We've always have had some restrictions on editing and will continue to do so. Sadly it is a function that gets abused, with members posting content they know is not allowed and then editing it out. Particularly when the community team are not around to see it. The smaller the window for editing, the less likely this is to happen and the smaller audience that can then be affected by the inappropriate content.
Hopefully it's sorted now and you should be able to edit within 60 minutes of posting, but if anyone is having any issues, please let me know.2 -
Adrian, I still have zero editing time

I also don't have the cog for editing now.

I don’t have the confidence to post it. As I don’t have the confidence in my ability to not appear a idiot.
especially if I feel unsupported or patronised Which seems often recently1 -
I rather enjoy your comments @michael57 - I like people who say it how it is, so long as they're not going to say anything derogatory about another poster, rather instead comment on the content of their post! There's also the ability to 'save a draft,' which I do use, not least because my dratted (really beloved) cat has found the 'back space' button with her front paw, so I can lose nearly all of my intended post, & walks across my keyboard several times a day!Sometimes I'm unsure whether to post something, so use the 'save a draft' function to leave it a while, or until the next day, then either post/delete it.You can always delete part of a comment before posting it, but I suppose being able to delete something after posting within 60 mins is helpful to some. Anyway, editing a post within 60 mins should soon be sorted for everyone.2

Mine is also showing 1 hour now. I often edit comments because after I posted I often think of extra information. My fault for not reading through what I've typed before posting. I don't edit comments for any other reason. I have known myself to comment and save it as draft, I may post it at a later date or delete it completely.
Although sometimes I find the ability to edit a comment only within 1 hour is frustrating but having said that I do agree with the teams reason for putting this in place.4 -
Please can someone explain how to edit a post for future reference please?0

HI @Annieanxious no problem. When you need to edit, if able to, you should have a little cog icon in the top right of the comment, click that, then just edit and you can update things that way.0
