Remaining politically neutral during General Election 2024

Under guidance from the Electoral Commission and Charity Commission, it's important that Scope remains politically neutral during General Elections.

While we understand that this period will see many passionate discussions and do not want to discourage open discussion, we cannot allow discussions which are purely intended to influence voting.

Hi my name is Carey Ann. My son Oliver is 33 and on the Autistic Spectrum (PDD) and a growth disorder called Multiple Epiphyseal Displaysia. Things are complicated, as I am sure they are for many of you!. I am an older mum and up until now I have cared for Oliver on my own. Now I need help and advice so I can plan for his future. This is why I have joined this community. I am feeling very overwhelmed and Oliver is also sensing this. Thanks everyone!

Hi @CareyAnn Welcome to the Community. Have you ever had a needs assessment done for your son.
A health and social care assessment is carried out by Social Services to find out what help and support you need, like healthcare, equipment, help in your home.

If you have any questions please ask. Take care.

Heya @CareyAnn and welcome from me too. :)

I can see Beaver79 has already given you some top advice here, but I wanted to stop in and say a quick hello.  If there's anything else you need, please just ask away. :)

Hi Beaver and Albus, Thankyou for replying to me.  When Ollie was younger he was constantly assessed and received benefits etc. We then went to live out of UK for a bit and when I came back we were living with my Dad and we decided we could manage without intervention. My father died in January and we have had to move out of our house so at the moment we are 'no fixed abode'. I am staying with different friends and Ollie is with his godmother at the moment so I can work a little. I will contact the needs assessment, but I would love to find out if there are any advocates who can represent Ollie or just guide us through the process.  Everyone wants an 'address' or an area we live in - and that is difficult at the moment. Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

I'm so sorry for your loss @CareyAnn I understand that can't be an easy time for you, especially with additional stress. Have you spoken to Shelter about the housing issues?
With regard to advocacy, I've heard good things about POhWER, who may be able to help?
