Not really, I do have supportive family but there are some specific things I have only shared with my GP, and Samaritans by email - and also in my PIP form.
I think have done my best to make it clear in my form answers and again in the recent letter I sent in alongside hospital reports that communication is difficult, and more so because some topics I am trying to keep private so it is difficult to be supported in this way.
I think I have explained everything that’s relevant that I could possibly think of, and with Poppy’s recent guidance this prompted me to send in evidence that I was sitting on. I think I’ve sent in enough myself now, and while I have not seen the GP report as they contacted him directly for this, I trust it will be sufficient and I am confident my communication difficulties will be mentioned in that too.
Tbh, the only thing that has me slightly worried right now is the recent security outage all over the news. RM shows my recent evidence was delivered but the next day is when this outage occurred. I hope this hasn’t caused any problems with their systems or how they input and share evidence on their system.

I completely understand that you want your information to be kept private. Regarding the Microsoft outage, it didn't affect the DWP so everything should be fine 😊
It sounds like you've sent in lots of evidence and I'm glad Poppy could help you. Let us know how you get on.

When you send in evidence weeks after the PIP form, do they usually text to say they have received additional evidence?
I was just wondering what is common in this scenario. I did add to my letter requesting if they could text me to confirm it’s been received.

No, not usually.

Looking at a few shared timelines posted around here by others, I anticipate I should hear soon regarding whether they want to speak to me, see me, or do a paper based assessment.
I do feel I have given enough and overshared so they may not need to see me.
I am thinking what steps I should be considering in the meantime.
In my PIP form I explained my communication difficulties and said if they can access my ESA reports, that they can do so - here they should find that the assessor SHOULD have noted my difficulties, or times where CAB has had to attend reviews instead of me. I know that obviously an assessment where you speak or attend is the norm, but I am hoping they have enough information so I can avoid putting myself through all that again. My GP has mentioned my difficulties in his report that PIP contacted him for.
I realise that I am overthinking things and starting to panic as I am expecting to hear from them soon.
I was wondering if it might be beneficial for me to somehow try and obtain my past ESA reports? And also should I acquire my GP report too? PIP contacted him directly for this, so I don’t have a copy.I think I will leave things for now, but just considering what steps I might be able to take as half expect **** to hit the fan.
ESA haven’t called me in for review for over 6 years now, and CAB suggested PIP claim around 10 years ago. But I was so stressed when I had to attend ESA reviews that I never applied. I’ve just been managing with ESA only. It’s only because some surgeries are taking years of waiting, and I also require dental treatment but no longer have an NHS dentist. This is what’s prompted to do the PIP claim form.
sorry, I realise this is unnecessarily long.0 -
Paper based assessments are possible but quite rare. Timescales vary wildly depending on area.
For evidence please do remember that less is often more. It’s not helpful to send multiple pieces of evidence all saying the same thing.
If an assessment is needed you will be contacted.
I totally get how stressful the waiting is but please try to focus on something else while you’re waiting.

Starting to get more concerned now. I have tried to call a few times but more hoping to hear anything from the AI robot, but it always seems like it’s trying to setup a phone call to speak to someone. Which I can not cope with.
I’ve not heard anything since the sms text saying ‘they are now have someone looking at my claim and that they may contact me if assessment is required’.
It’s been almost 4 weeks since that text and almost 4 months since initially requesting the claim form.

When you ring the helpline the questions are asked so you can be put through to someone from the call centre. If you're hoping to hear some information for a payment then please be aware that if it gives that information, it has been known many times for it to be incorrect.
I will be honest and say your total timescale hasn't been that long up to now and it's perfectly normal. It can take anything up to several months, sometimes longer from applying to having a decision.
I do understand the stress all of this causes but please try to focus on something else because ringing the helpline like that isn't helping you.

@poppy123456 Thankyou for your reply. My post was badly timed as I have had a sms text this morning.
Could you please advise what this text means? Initially I mis-read it as them just confirming they received my GP report, but looking over it again it sounds like my PIP report. Does this mean they’re not expecting me to sit in assessment or want to ask me questions for an hour over the phone?I’m still just processing this now, I think I understand it, just feeling huge sense of relief right now as have been dreading a letter or out the blue phone call. I’m not too sure if this still might happen but this sl appears to be the biggest progress
DWP TEXT ‘We've received the written report of your PIP assessment. We will write to you once we've made a decision on your PIP. As a guide you should hear from us within 8 weeks. You don't need to contact us unless any of the details you gave us have changed. Thank you.’0 -
Good morning @W348. It looks from that text that you've had a paper-based assessment. Please be aware the 8 weeks they mention is just a guide and unfortunately some people are waiting much longer than that to hear anything.

I did my assessment via video link

That is such a relief, I’ve put off applying for PIP for many years mainly because I was always worried about the assessment itself. Past experience with ESA assessments are that these are a nightmare and make me incredibly ill due to frustration of not being able to explain things properly and speak for myself.
I did my best on my form with advice from Poppy and others here, trying to keep it simple and give examples.
Regardless of decision I feel I have at least put my best foot forward and explained as best I could, in the only means I am confident to do so, in typed form.
With my form I did include an extra page of my typed questions for assessor and requested they email me directly. Does this mean they’re not going to answer the questions I had for them? I asked things like about privacy of my records, and if other NHS services like dentists or opticians might be able to see. I explained my GP says this is confidential but I wanted an answer about what other services have access to. I also requested that they shred any evidence I send them after their decision.
Besides the text today I’ve not heard anything from them.It seems then as you say it’s been done paper-based. Is there anything I can do or prepare for in the meantime. I’ve read many suggestions across the forums here.
WHAT’s NEXT?
Should I still be worried about an out the blue phone call? I saw a few comments here even by those who had a positive outcome that some still got contacted suddenly wanting to clarify details.
I know if it doesn’t go in my favour that I should write to request MR mandatory reconsideration and best to do this by post and not over the phone, the recommended way is more easier for me to cope with too.
Should I be asking for reports or anything to be sent to me? Should I do this even if the outcome is positive? If positive decision my gut reaction is that I probably don’t want to see their report or my GP’s report as I may find what it says distressing. I think I only need to see these if the decision is negative.

Now the report is returned a decision can take anything up to 12 weeks. Sometimes a decision maker may ring you before making a decision if they have any questions to ask but it's rare for them to do this.
Other than that there's nothing more you can do but wait for the decision.
You can request the assessment report by ringing PIP but I will advise that they more often than not causes even more anxiety than you're already experiencing. Even if the report is in your favour anxiety is very often still escalated. For this reason it maybe better to wait for the decision but that's entirely up to you.

Thanks, yeah, I don’t feel I need to give this any more of my head space just now. Thanks again for all your insight with this. At least I don’t need to worry about an assessment, fingers crossed the rest goes smoothly.
I just wanted to have an idea if as to my options if the decision is negative.
I think I’ll leave it for now, I’ll only look into pursuing the PIP report and the GP report if the outcome is negative, as I may need these to make notes for a possible MR.0 -
I got another text this morning which was faster than I expected
TEXT
’We have awarded you PIP. We have sent you a decision letter explaining the award. Please allow 2 weeks to receive this. You only need to contact us if your circumstances change.’
I am glad I found this forum, I think reading others experiences here and the comments from others on my case, especially you @Poppy123456, thank you so much. It took me a long time with the form and nearly missing the deadline for me to get my head around things. Knowing I could type it out and tidy it up was really beneficial. I think that last minute push and sending in additional evidence may have possibly swung it. There was details I really did not want to share and idieally wanted to share my difficulties only - but maybe sending this extra evidence in may have swung it. I probably needed that push.
i don’t know what my PIP award is yet. I will try to phone and see if I can hear it from that AI robot.I am feeling a bit overwhelmed waking up to this text. Obviously huge relief, feeling stupid for avoiding applying for so long.
I think this all would have come crumbling down had I been required to speak for myself or attend an assessment. Past ESA experiences pushed me to breaking point where CAB had to attend reviews instead of me.
I feel stupid for not doing this many years ago, I suppose in my head I always hoped I would get better and could survive on ESA, but that never happened. If it wasn’t for dentists abandoning NHS patients, I might never have tried for PIP. I still hope I could get better and be able to talk properly.
sorry for the long post, obviously feeling relieved. Feeling some confusion now if there is something I should be doing.
I don’t know if I should be looking to somehow get copies of reports to keep and store them for any future review reasons.
I’ll wait for the letter but once this arrives, should I just relax and stop thinking about this, or is there last minute things I should do?
tha nk you again2 -
Oh that's amazing news @W348 congratulations! I'd hold off and wait for the letter, as the automated service can sometimes give the wrong info. Get the kettle on!

@W348 that's brilliant news!! So happy to hear that the advice I gave helped you.
I note that you're also claiming ESA, is that Income Related? If so are you living alone or with other adults?
Please be aware about ringing the helpline to get automated payment information because it's not always correct and it doesn't give any information about any money they may owe you.

I am not sure which type of ESA it is tbh. I just know it’s ESA, I am in the support group if that helps narrow which type it is?
Yes, I do live with other adult family but I am hoping this new PIP income might help me to try and move out and see if I can try and cope on my own.1 -
If your ESA is more than £138.20/week then at least part of it is Income Related.
If so does your family member claim either PIP daily living, DLA mid/high rate care or AA or are they registered blind?
If you answer yes to either of those and your PIP award includes the daily living part then you'll be entitled to the Severe disability Premium. (SDP)
If the answer is no then unfortunately you will not be entitled to the SDP.
You will also not be able to claim SDP if your ESA is £138.20/week because that indicates that it's either New style or contributions based.
