They seem to be going after well off pensioners by the looks of things.

I've not seen anything about disabled people being targeted.

They've said people who can work, should work, but i think this means people not on LCWRA.

    I don't think they'll means test PIP.

Are they? I haven't actually seen that being mentioned at all. It's been mentioned plenty of times on here through all the speculation though.

All they've said is those that can work should work and that can mean anyone and doesn't necessarily mean disabled people.

I only read about 10% of threads, I skip the ones I'm not interested in interacting with. I wouldn't dream of trying to shape the forum as a whole into the place I think it should be. I understand that not everyone wants to think about these things as they are extremely stressful, but it is what it is at the moment. As others have said, many of us will continue to be worried until we know what the concrete plans are, and it's a comfort to know we are not alone in this. I will always head any threads I start with a clear heading so people who want to stay away from it can easily.

Advice and support should go hand in hand, if you can't offer both, maybe just concentrate on the one you are good at...

Hi @Zipz - sorry to have commented on your post in a way, as certainly I wish you to feel comfortable here, & your concerns matter. The fault is with some of the media; sadly your post has been only one of many recently, which you weren't to know.

The new govt. has only been in power for a few weeks, so the media/social media's comments are all mere speculation, which several members have tried to say.

I do take onboard @cantilip's comment, but well remember when SIRVA (shoulder injury related to vaccine injury) following Covid vaccines was first mentioned here. I was at first skeptical, but it became obvious that we were later dealing with medical fact. Some members joined Scope as they'd found it wasn't allowed to be discussed in other forums, but here on Scope it was, which I embraced, & tried to help in my own way. But, it was importantly then dealing with fact; I'm totally with @AKR here as fact matters to me too (due to being a long retired physio), & where I had had to be totally objective in finding the congenital disorder myself & family have some years ago.

Everyone is in everyone's corner, that's what Scope is about, which is why we say please don't pay attention to media-grabbing headlines that aren't actually factual. We're all here to support you, on this occasion this support is in saying please don't listen to unsubstantiated claims by the media, & why we try to counter such misinformation.

@Meg24 - advice has been given; so very sorry if you can't see this as the support that is intended. I personally hope this forum remains as supportive as it can be which takes on board advice based on fact; why deal with conjecture? Your comment is otherwise difficult to those that read more comments here than yourself, & try to understand the wider picture…..that nothing has as yet been said by the Labour govt. (which is advice) & Scope matters to us enormously (we're really here to support you all).

I think a total detox will be in order. I think I will take a social media break and from the Internet in general. We're being bombarded with scaremongering stories about PIP and it's not healthy for us.

We will have no new information until we hear it from the horses mouth.

I was given some word searches to do. So I will keep myself busy by focusing on that.

Look after yourselves and see you in a few weeks.

Hi everyone, I split the off-topic discussion into it's own thread. If we could stick to the general topic area of PIP reform in this thread that would be appreciated.

Hi @Thunderbird. I've moved the comments about your situation to this thread here

Could you post your comment on there please? We want to keep this discussion focused on PIP. Thanks.

    I agree.

I have only heard it said that "those who can work, should work".

It's all well DWP and ministers saying, "those who can work, should work!" However, it seems like many old school work coaches take the attitude that any job will do regardless of it's suitability to the individual needs. With the right support and adjustments, I'm sure many who want to work would prefer to work rather than be dependant on benefits which are difficult to get and always under threat.

As long as she doesn't change the benefits that are currently not included in means testing.

I would think they would have to consider it on a case by case basis, if there is no other income, I can't see that they would remove your only source of income, there is usually low income support anyway, but I am not totally against the people who are rich and receiving PIP alongside their massive salaries or pensions (no offense)

@MyHappy256 housing benefit and council tax reduction are both means tested benefits.

I remember when I lost my job due to ill health I still got put on JSA and had to go through the Seetec scheme and do the required number of job applications, which I then failed solely because of my poor health.

At that time Seetec would come up with the most menial jobs you can imagine just to try and get people back into work.

Luckily when my diagnosis came out even though I wanted to continue to try and get back into work, they told me straight I had to go onto ESA or I probably would have still been stuck in that vicious circle.

Several weeks ago, @TheManFromLondon wrote in detail why it would make no sense to means-test PIP. Is he still of the same mind?
