That sounds so frustrating. I'm frustrated for you now! A lot of hospitals wont use external emails, only intranet, so I'm guessing that's what they mean? Heck, I think some still use pagers! Hopefully the doc will be back and refreshed on Monday and get straight onto your scan results.🤞

    And fax ….

Yep - But I can guess what will happen - I think that the department has lost my scan results and Pals are just delaying …

There has been a great deal of rejection of email in the NHS on the grounds of confidentiality. As though a piece of paper wrapped in another piece of paper represented Fort Knox. Some places have ignored the prohibition, others not; it has been and it seems in some places still is a misdemeanour to communicate with patients by email. It is something drummed into them they must not do. Thus I have been virtually reduced to tears saying 'just email it!'. Oh no, we can't do that. This is changing but change takes a long time to filter through to everyone.

You need to ask emis\systemone why there are such problems with patient requests.

@Wibbles 'My GP told me to contact colerectral but I can't email them

    But nothing else

    What would you do?'

Snail-mail, the NHS being one of the peaceful backwaters of the nation that still really relates to letters. Exactly to whom with copies to whom may depend on who ordered the CT and so on, but the Consultant Colorectal Surgeon and the Consultant Radiologist spring to mind. Remember neither of these people may have heard of you and your problems and it is possible they will jump like scalded cats. Do not fail to remind them of the

Positron emission tomography CT is very easy to view even for a non-medic, why are there such long delays?

Apparently - my consultant has been on holiday

Most places tell me they don't use external email because it isn't 100% secure.

Now, if we ignore the fact that phones haven't been secure for decades, and anyone can intercept posted mail…

When the only option I have is email, surely it should be my choice whether to risk the alleged reduced security of it? I literally don't have any other way to contact people!

All this 'security' winds me up no end. I'm sure it's impeding myself far more than the crims who can quickly adapt to each new security measure.

My local hospital used to use email but they have apparently now recently trawled through their entire website and removed all email references and links - totally against common sense and the equalities act…… reasonable adjustments does apply to them also.

I do find the way health services are cutting down the ways to contact them a bit troublesome. My GP is slowly putting everything online, which is fine for me and my partner, but I know a lot of older folk who will struggle with it.

Mine appears to be doing the exact opposite - relying on phone calls/ snail mail as a contact method ?

My GP does seem oddly tech-based from other GPs I have seen. Things are so tech based now that even if you call up for an appointment the first thing they do is send you a text with a link to a website where you can book your appointment.

If you say you can't do that they will still try to book your appointment over the phone, but they're trying to make website booking the default. Again, actually preferable for me, but I imagine it certainly isn't for people who are less confident with technology.

I am confident with technology - I am not confident with speaking on the phone

I can understand that, my own preferences are online>phone>in-person.

I'm sorry your GP and services are going the opposite way 😕 honestly party of me has wondered why there isn't some standardised system for GPs. Wouldn't it be cheaper overall to have a standard system instead of each separate GP having to pay for different services and tech?

I suppose then the issue is, updating a hugely standardised software isn't always a quick or cheap process if it's done poorly.

Its more the hospital that cause me problems

My GP is pretty good normally

I am lucky in that both my local hospital and GP are both good right now. About 2ish years ago I was under the same hospital but a different GP, and it was awful. I would try to get basic things done and the GP would take months. Like adding a vulnerable flag to their files on me so I could receive the covid jab early. It required my hospital team sending them a letter demanding it, after repeated attempts from me asking for it to get it added.

Yet again - my GP surgery is using coded entries on my medical record - this time it is hiding a letter from hospital / colorectal with the results of my CT scan - that I have been waiting for 9 weeks to read - it arrived in my records yesterday but I am unable to even read it……………..
