LCWRA
Hello everyone!
I've just been awarded LCWRA after a mandatory reconsideration. I have a joint claim with my wife who works (PT) and we receive carers allowance. Will I receive any payment for being awarded LCWRA? I have completed the 3 months assessment period and my award is from 21/08/24.....

You will receive the extra money providing your wife doesn't already receive the LCWRA element for herself. The extra money is paid from the 4th month after you provided your first fit note, with first payment being the end of that month.
Please also note that the same person can't receive both carers element and LCWRA element at the same time. In this case only the highest element is paid, which is the LCWRA element. If your wife is claiming carers element then you can receive the LCWRA element.
Carers allowance is deducted in full from any UC entitlement.

Good morning and thank you for your reply. It's all new to us having only recently migrated over from WTC. I didn't make it clear....We have a 'joint' UC claim, I'm the one who has been awarded LCWRA and my wife receives the care element, she doesn't claim anything else. I'm just so confused! So I will receive payment for being in the LCWRA group?

Yes, you will receive the extra money. However, if your UC includes Transitional Protection then this will erode by the same amount as the LCWRA element. Therefore, whether you'll be any better off will depend on how much TP you receive. The LCWRA element is £416.19/month so if your TP is more than this then it will reduce by that amount.
If you didn't previously have the work allowance then you'll also be entitled to that. It means that a certain amount of earnings you or your wife receives each month will be ignored before any deductions apply.
If you claim for help with the rent it will be £404/month, if you don't then it will be £673/month.

Thank you for your help!
UC replied to my message regarding this, and your information was spot on 😊
**Just for information purposes and maybe to help others**
I had a WCA via phone(not video) which lasted 35 mins and the HCP didn't ask any relevant questions nor any that were listed on Gov site, I never received a UC50 to fill out and they never requested any medical evidence. UC then awarded me LCW, I requested a MR and this was completed in 24hrs and I've been awarded LCWRA following this MR, again they didn't ask for any evidence although I did explain my disabilities and how they and my medications affect me on a daily basis in the letter I wrote them. So if anyone is wondering if it's worth going for MR, it definitely is!

Thank you!
I just find it to be an awful experience, it's bad enough having health issues without having to "prove" that you're disabled, being asked very personal questions and then being denied! So you feel like they don't believe you.
I have a template of the letter I sent via 'my journal' if anyone would like it please just ask 😊
