Can an Italian woman who does not live in the uk be my carer?
I need to know how if my Italian girlfriend can move over here to be my carer. She cares for me now but is moving back to her home country. Can she move here to be my permanent carer and get the carers benefit if she is not a resident of the UK?

I am uncertain on how it works if my carer is not a resident of the uk

To be able to claim carers allowance you must be living in the UK for 2 out of the last 3 years.

As Poppy has already detailed the eligibility criteria for carer's allowance, another aspect to consider is your girlfriend's legal ability to reside in the UK as your carer. As an Italian national, she will need to engage with the UK's immigration system. A Family Visa might be suitable if you are partners, although other visa categories could also be considered, albeit they might not directly cater to informal caregiving roles. Since direct sponsorship for such roles is uncommon, navigating this path might present some challenges. It would be advisable to further investigate these options if you wish for her to join you in the UK.

Despite what a lot of people say and think immigrants have no access to public funds.
