UC migration and council tax support
UC migration from irESA SG
Just getting prepared for my migration letter, as I don’t understand UC, and it’s setting off my anxiety badly.
From what I have read I can apply for an advance to pay HB, as mine is covered fully atm on ESA.
My CT is also fully covered, can I get help with payments in between my ESA stopping and my UC claim starting please?
I am so confused by UC, any help would really be appreciated please

Maybe it would be better to keep all your questions on the same thread so it would be much easier for you to refer back to when the times comes for you to migrate across. There's also a guide that I put together here that maybe helpful to you.
To answer your questions here, yes you can ask for an advance payment once you've had your first appointment. However, this does need to be repaid back and your future UC payments will be reduced until it's paid back.
Don't forget also that your Income Related ESA and housing benefit will continue for 2 weeks once you submit the claim for UC.
Council Tax reduction isn't part of UC and that will continue but it will be recalculated based on your UC entitlement.

Thank you.
I did wonder about doing under the same thread, but some questions in the future may not be about HB or CT, but general UC questions, but if it makes it easier for answering I will of course do so.0 -
I have seen the following on a social media post and wondered if you can tell me if this is correct please?
ESA or Income-related ESA + Housing Benefit we are still not sure when you will be asked to migrate?
The previous government planned to start sending notices in autumn 2024 but there has been no proper confirmation of this?Bedroom exemption for overnight care will not carry over to UC?
Once you have claimed UC you will need to redeclare that you need the additional bedroom and a Decision Maker will decide if you should be awarded? If this is correct that means another fight to try to get it all over again…Is the decision maker from UC and not the council? It’s was my council I had to convince before, but dreading it even more if it’s UC.Has anyone personal experience of this and happy to advise me about the process and how it was for them please?
Thank you

Managed migration for those claiming Income Related ESA has been changed from 2028/29 to between Sept 2024 and Dec 2025. The new Government haven't announced anything to suggest it's been changed back so up to now it's planned as going ahead.
You will need to reapply for the extra bedroom when you do migrate to UC and a decision maker from DWP will need to make that decision, not someone from your Local Authority (council) I will say that an extra bedroom for a carer is so much easier to claim with UC than it ever was from housing benefit.
