The amount of overpayment will be deducted from your UC statement automatically.

If it's a small amount it would be paid off all at once.

Anything bigger would go bit by bit, but you should have the option to contact DWP debt management directly and arrange for a full repayment.

    Hi everyone,

Can someone offer me some advice regarding ID and biographical interviews over the phone ? I applied for uc last week as I’m on legacy esa support group . I was told I could use birth certificate and bank statements etc as ID due to no passport and driver license. I was then sent an interview date on my journal but the CAB said I can ask for a biographical interview as I’m suffering bad anxiety and ME setback. I called uc and one person said it’s too late I made a mistake and I don’t get a second chance. And I would need passport and driver license. I googled and it said he was wrong so I called them again and was told someone will respond to my journal and I could have the interview over the phone. Does anyone have any advice please ?

I had mine over the phone as my passport has expired so I have no valid Id.

Write a note in your journal saying you can not attend the booked appointment at the job center (I added due to my disability, I didn't specify which).

Send another message requesting a biographical id phone call. If you require it to be a certain time of day say when. You can request a call as a reasonable adjustment due to your disability as attending the job centre would cause severe distress/pain / overwhelming psychological distress etc.

My call was sorted within a few days.

Be aware my questions were impossible to answer if I didn't have extensive record keeping, which I do.

For example. Which year did you first apply for x benefit,

What month did you move into x house and what was the full address including post code.

My questions went back nearly 20 years.

However the man that called me was EXTREMELY NICE, I write in caps as I was so surprised. It took me a good 5 minutes to find the answer to each question but he constantly reassured me not to rush, just to find the correct answer.

Hope this helps. Please bear in mind this is my experience.

thank you for your response. I wouldn’t even know those dates . I have brain fog due to my conditions. I can’t see many people remembering dates from 20 years earlier. I actually forgot my own age in the past , for 2 whole years 😂. I wouldn’t have kept old letters from that far back either . It seems for most people it would be impossible.

Ah, you see I've kept pretty much all my medical paper work from childhood I realise it was my job to keep records as medical professionals lie, or used to anyway.

I have all my major dates on spreadsheets on my computer so the questions were easy to answer I just needed a few minutes to check dates.

Many other people are passing the biographical id so maybe I just got the harder questions. The questions are personal to your case so hopefully yous will be simpler. I did say this was my experience. My overall point was my phone call was surprisingly pleasant for a dwp call

I hope it’s easy as I’ve kept very little paper work and I’d struggle to remember what I did yesterday. I must say and I don’t want to jinx myself but when calling DWP I’ve found them to be nice to me and helpful. When pip first came in the assessors were super tough . I scored zero points and the dwp told me to appeal and how to do it . Only one who was awful was at my tribunal, she questioned me as though I was in court for murder . I ended up having to go to the upper tier and I won. I have a feeling that will happen now with the 4 point rule . The tribunals will need to train extra staff again as so many will appeal.

Oh yes I suspect the reconsiderations requests will go thought the roof.

I've Just been to a court tribunal and won but for basic esa to prove an error on their part. It's disappointing how many of us have had that extra stress.

Fingers crossed for easy questions for you.

I've also been to tribunal. Not just been, it was years ago.
