There will always be this feeling as it is not done fairly saying there is a budget for foreign aid wheres the budget for elderly disabled it's to wide apart it literally seems that the well being of refugees is more important than ours it's not being unreasonable racist it's facts if that was me on a park bench going to shelter scope mind cmht doctors begging for help and there isn't none sure I'd feel let down angry disappointed scared and terrified lost that's what faces millions of uk citizens it not right

My thought exactly, putting others before our own 👍

Well I for one am glad we have a foreign aid budget. Imagine if Ukraine lost to Putin, do you think he would stop there. Imagine if Putin then built his army back up and declared war on say Poland. WW2 tells us all we need to know and lets hope history never repeats itself. It isn't a case of paying foreign aid instead of paying our pensioners, it's a simple case of keeping Europe safe.

I think here the comparison of foreign aid vs welfare funding isn't taking in the whole picture.
Of course we should be providing better welfare, but it isn't true that the options are we give foreign aid or we have better welfare.
As other commenters have mentioned, we are a wealthy country. We have one of the largest economies in the world. The issue, as again other members have mentioned, is inequality. There is enough money to pay for both foreign aid and better welfare, we can see that just by looking at other countries doing both with smaller economies. It's better to look at where the money is going instead of helping those in need, both foreign and our own.

The only way goverment would listen if we downed tools they work for us

Hi Catherine, I would love to understand more about your idea. When you mention "downing tools," could you share a bit more about what kind of action you have in mind and how you think it might work in practice? I am also curious about why you believe this approach would prompt the government to listen.

Hi Catherine, I understand you are very concerned about the impact of new policies on our freedoms and well being. While it is important to address these issues, I do not think that disrupting services alone will solve them.
Instead, focusing on positive ways to make our voices heard and advocate for change might be more effective. Some laws and policies are necessary for society to function, so finding a balanced approach is key.
If you have ideas on how we can address these concerns constructively, I would genuinely be interested in hearing them. I still believe that the pen is mightier than the sword, but I am open to joining any group that promotes these issues meaningfully.

I find it extremely difficult to write as my limited ability due to dyslexia so I come across unintelligent I wish I did have answers as we all do ! Just feel things will only get worse another goverment and it's happening again anyway I won't go on

Hey @Catherine21, when you say "down tools" do you mean a strike? Strikes can be held if the majority of the union agree to do so of course. Strikes have shown to be very powerful tools to negotiate.
However, boycotting taxes is a different matter. You can get in serious trouble and debt by not paying your taxes. I'm a bit concerned about some of the rest of your comment though. While facial recognition is a legitimate concern, 15 minute cities is a well-known conspiracy theory. Nobody anywhere is seriously suggesting that you only let people travel 15 minutes.
15 Minute Cities is a public infrastructure design principle that everyone should have everything they need within 15 minutes of where they live if possible. So they should have shops, doctors, entertainment, parks etc.
It has recently been heavily pushed in the United States, because there they can have places called "food deserts" where there are no grocery shops or doctors for miles. It can take 30-40 minutes of driving to get shopping, even within settlements. Here we are lucky, in that walking is far more common, so many of us already live within 15 minutes of a shop.
I think people are using and manipulating your fear to get you worked up and worried about things more than is reasonable or necessary. You mentioned when you get wound up in the fear your daughter often helps you with it if I remember correctly?

Apples & Catherine I don't see a difference between human beings. There is no "our own" for me, we all live on the same planet and have the same needs and desires. We none of choose where to be born and it seems deeply unfair for our fate to be decided forever by this random throw of the dice.
Britain is not broke, it might be broken, but broke it is not. We are one of the richest nations in the world, nobody should be left struggling, but it all come down to who gets the money and the vast majority of the money is in the hands of a very few.
The answer is not to make the many share the dregs, and fight between ourselves. The answer is to take more from those who have far more so we all get a fair share.

I won't be watching or reading about this debate or the budget.
For years I've made myself so ill and physically sick over welfare changes and I've realised that having my mind robbed for months before anything even happens achieves nothing.
So I'm trying a new approach, I know ignoring anything won't stop it, but I'd rather worry when it actually starts than also iose months on the run up with; t eating me up as it edges nearer and nearer.
I saw an article on Facebook yesterday from the mirror, the article itself was balanced and fine but the comments were disgusting, with one nasty little person telling a poor lady who had said about her disabilities to get a job and shut up.
Outside then disabled community there are a harrowing amount of nasty, ignorant and frankly dense people who just don't get it.
We deserve better all round.

I just watched a video in relation to Kier Starmer and Labour, on a YT short from GB news.
Some old guy, said that he will be even more unpopular on October 30th.
The clip never said for why, but hearing that date seemed a bit worrying.
So keep that date in your diary as well, as I cannot expect it to be good,

The 30th is the date of the budget @Needhelpandadvice that's when we'll actually find out what's going on.
0 -
@Albus_Scope If you actually read the forum post, it says the 07th of October.
I mentioned the 30th of October.
So I am not sure if the original date is the 07th but the 30th has been mentioned.

@Needhelpandadvice the government are answering questions regarding possible PIP changes on the 7th, hence this discussions title, but the actual budget itself is on the 30th.
