I agree - it feels a lot like the unemployed being told to ' Get on yer bike ' - those of a certain age might remember this phrase from the Thatcher era.

    Best wishes

Vaguely, but why are they picking on disabled, they must know we aren't capable of working. Wish I knew what's happening to pip . They treat us as 2nd class nothing.

One of the things we at Scope want is for attitudes from employers to change. It's not an easy thing certainly, but it would go a long way to help disabled people.

This is scary for many, many of us. Without PIP I as I realise many others are going to succumb to even more challenges/difficulties. I never thought a Labour would do such a heartless, callous, uncaring thing. Many will needlessly suffer.

I have physical health issues and psychological problems too. We don't know what is going to happen yet, but it has definitely exacerbated my anxiety and related issues. I am currently being seen as being of greater vulnerability/threat to myself and my welfare and have been put on a list relating to this with social services & community mental health (sorry I know there is a proper name for it, but escapes me).

I am worried sick. Not sleeping or eating.

    Frightening times for many.

it’s always the same with whatever government comes in of whatever colour. They make bold statements and threats even but in the end nothing really changes. They know they can’t magic sick people into work but they have to make the right noises. In the meantime the sick and disabled are castigated for something they can do little or nothing about. Disgraceful behaviour as usual.

99% of me is terrified. The other 1% tells me that there always has to be PIP (or something very like it) and that there has to be an ESA Support Group/ LCWRA. I know adults with the physical and mental capacity of infants of two. There's no way they could seek work and the same is true for many severely and multiply disabled people without hope of getting better.

@JonnycJonny and @Catherine21 I think they intend that 80% of working age adults will be in employment not that 80% of non- working disabled people will be "forced" into work.

can someone catch me up with the news of the day (been off the web all day):

No one has really written a summary or even coherent snippets

some seem upset with something Stephen timms said

Some seem to be talking like pip’s going to be axed

And the comment on wanting 80% to go into work - I think that 80% is referring to the labour aim mentioned a month or so ago is the goal of having 80% of working age Brits (16-66 state pension age) in some sort of employment……..which for the record that 80% has never been achieved by any government so it’s a tall order (not 80% of all working age disabled in employment unless timms said something new………it’s an impossible goal bcos even if they pressure the disabled they can’t pressure employers to hire disabled employees if they don’t want to)

I do think that many on scope need to understand why we seem to be in this perfect storm and be more realistic and open on the things they could be able to do in the right circumstances and with the right help (human based, financial and physical aid based help)

That being said the government need to be significantly more realistic on their own goals because based on the snippets we have so far, as my father puts it “what planet are they on…..” needless to say I haven’t heard anything yet to suggest the relevant labour dwp figures have more of a clue than their Tory counterparts (spoiler….i don’t think they do) - I mean today Kendall several times today seems to have suggested that you have to apply for pension credit via your local council (I think you have to apply for pension credit via dwp……………..Kendall has poorly briefed herself if I’ve understood that right)

the most interesting thing I can find from today is the following (disability campaigners and activists have a truckload of reading if they choose to do so:

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/list-of-upcoming-research-publications/list-of-upcoming-research-publications

List of all new published (Tory commissioned) reports

    https://www.gov.uk/search/research-and-statistics?organisations%5B%5D=department-for-work-pensions&page=1&parent=department-for-work-pensions

    Links to all 31 reports

I’ll try and have a quick skim now and post screenshots of the parts of commons q&a that relate to the disabled community if that is of help (just bear with me)

When is the White Paper to be published? Autumn ends on 30 November. Do we really have to wait that long?

A lot of labours plan is riding on the disabled community ‘playing ball’ (a tad of a problem when some disabled will be unable to do so regardless of what you do…………’most fish will never be able to fly like birds’)

Obviously the incoming white paper this autumn (within next 8 weeks in theory?) will have the details of how labour intend to go about this………….but this indication of hedging bets of the disabled community filling in major gaps in employment rate from current amount to aim of 80% (a % which has never been achieved in the uk before) is not smart or realistic thing to bet on in terms of success

I will say it again - it’s early days but Labour don’t seem to be on a planet with common sense from what I’ve heard so far!

Question - aren’t more existing jobcentres currently being shut than new ones open?

Another question - many disabled claimants don’t drive and rural buses are getting less frequent by the year…………prehaps public transport needs to be looked into before opening (and deciding on location) of job centre

The logical answer to that would be within the next 8 weeks (I imagine after the autumn budget in 4 weeks time)

But who knows if these ministers know that uk autumn is from sept-nov and winter starts on 1st dec………….some pretty daft things have been said by them the past few months (how smart and common sense versed is the average minister?……………..serious question I’ve been pondering on for a lot of 2024)
