Green Power scooters (hints and tips)
Hello Peeps, Razr here (JH500, 15mph), FYI, the only part on the green power scooters that utilizes the 60v combined power source is the motor and motor controller, the rest of the electrics are standard 12v going through a step-down converter (60v in 12v out), so therefore if you want to pimp your ride you can use any car and motorbike 12v accessories, eg: lights can be replaced with LED's making them brighter and less strain on the power source also they last a lot longer
(the main headlight bulb is the only light that is LED, the rest are standard car bulbs)
Indicators can be made to be a lot brighter as with the side and brake lights, the light bar at the rear can be modified to be just a central brake light instead of being a running and brake light making it easier for other road users to see especially at a distance,
I am also looking into putting under glow lights on my scooter,
replacing the current bulbs that the scooter comes with, with LEDs, you can put more LED lights on it without straining its power source and reducing its range
These are things I am currently doing with my scooter, photos will be uploaded once finished
I am happy to let you know what bulbs to replace them with and any other info you may require to do with the Green power scooter range if messaged here
I will only post what I have done and personally tested
Have fun

What I intend to do,
convert my scooter to lifepo4 batteries
currently has:
Lead Acid 5x12v 20Ah can be upgraded to 22Ah, Each Battery = Length = 181mm, Width = 76mm, Height = 167mm
(heavy and die after 1-3 years of use and need to be replaced)
will have:
(electric car teq)
LifePo4 5x 12v 30Ah Each Battery = Length = 180mm, Width = 75mm, Height = 170mm
(much lighter at 6,28 lbs and are guaranteed for 10 years of use or 3000 cycles) will also need a 60v charger for lithium batteries, no BMS as it has them already built-in to each power pack
Higher amps so will give a better range
£450 for Green powers equivalent 60v 5x12v lithium removable power pack
or have:
I am also looking at 20x3.2v 50Ah lifepo4 batteries to see if they will fit, will need a BMS and 60v charger for this setup and may need to modify the battery tray
There will be no change in its speed, as this is intended to extend its range not its speed of 4-8-15mph
I am a retired (hobbyist only now) mechanic/ engineer and all-metals welder fabricator
Have built custom motorbikes and trikes from the ground up, modified motorbikes/trikes ect for disabled persons, totally rebuilt cars after accidents and had them pass an MOT and any test and regulations set by DVLA and the law
This project should be a doddle
if allowed by this site I will post pictures and an explanation as things progress + or -

Please Remember
Hi folks, I need to remind people of the legalities here, modding a mobility scooter to go faster than 8mph is against the law, unless on private land. This could lead to legal proceedings and fines against you. Thank you @Albus-Scope
I do not advise this but this is what and how I am using mine,
Personally, I have a full Clean Car Driving licence (held for 37 yrs), my scooter is registered/Taxed with DVLA with number plates and insured and I use mine as an electric vehicle, 4mph on the pavement and 8-15mph on the road only, no different to an electric bike, I have had no issues with the law, I do use it responsibly, "Legs before Wheels" is my moto
I also have a 200 ltr trailer I tow with it when shopping

LBW, Legs Before Wheels, please ride and be responsible for yourself and others
I would like to add, that if you have a class 3 mobility scooter it must be registered (new regulations) with DVLA, V5C (you will receive its registration number (and you can have a number plate made with what DVLA send you) then tax it ( does not cost any money),
always remember LBW, 4mph pavement, 8mph roads, 15mph private land, please be good and careful at 15mph it turns into a hot rod
Thank you as I do worry ok

Ok here is something absolutely brilliant, you can get a replacement motor a lot cheaper than from Green Power if you need to replace your motor or upgrade, they are identical, and you can even upgrade for a lot cheaper, Green power 1000w upgrade is £299 and the same motor from A_mazon is £154, exactly the same bolt holes and electrical connectors, I am upgrading mine to 1500w for £203, it will give much better torque
I will post how it goes in time
I am not knocking Green Power scooters or the company, they are fantastic scooters which have amazing potential if you are like me and like to customize your ride

Does your mobility scooter have a differential? If so, can it be blocked?

It is actually known as a transaxle due to being geared as well as a diff I believe, i have not looked at modifying it yet

I have a Green Power Fastest and I wish to know how to get access to headlamp bulbs and any others. Everything seems to be held fast, completly immovable. The only thing I have got to is the batteries when I had a loose connection. The scooter is one year old.

This could be dependent on what model you have. To get to the headlight bulb you will need to take the mirrors off the gain access to the 2 screws there, then there are 4 others on the sides and a 10mm bolt at the front, you can upgrade the bulbs to much better ones, i can send links if you want, to get to the rear bulbs they are twist sockets and can be taken out by hand, no tools needed except removing the boot which has 4x 10mm bolts

sorry i gave you instructions for remove the headlight from a JH500, looks like there is a 10mm bolt under your headlight, the top of it clips in from what i can tell from photos, your rear lights are the same though
1 -
yes the headlight definatley has a 10mm bolt under the chrome part of the headlight then you pull the bottom out and the top will unclip

Thanks Razr, I have tried that but the thing is so solid like every other thing on the scooter. I don't know how to shift anything. I am on the Isle of Wight so had to commision it myself whitch was no problem apart from being unable to completly remove all the protective plastic so some bits still protrude.
Other than that I am very happy with it but wonder how I will fix it if it I need toget to a covered part.
Regards Jimmer.

i can give you a link to source the parts (not all from Green Power as they are overpriced) and although i cannot physically repair it as i live 100's miles away i can advise as i have had mine in 1000 bits and rebuilt it

Undo the 10mm bolt and then use a flat-head screwdriver to lever out the bottom on the chrome rim
everything will be tightly fitted if never removed before
i cant send you photos of your headlight but i can send to photos which will help with the rear as they are all mostly the same
eBay item number:354952479320 alternative headlight bulb is awesome and gives a proper high and low beam
eBay item number:395640313852 LED side light bulb to replace the normal bulb in the headlight
Rear lights
eBay item number:235576783710 replacement indicator bulbs f+R
eBay item number:186326317164 replacement Side and brake light bulb,
All these bulbs are much brighter use less power and last longer
Bare in mind most of the machine is actualy a normal 4 wheel scooter, the only mobility parts are the motor managment and speed restrictors, a normal garage can do this work for you as 95% of the parts are just like a motorbike, scooter or trike
This is the whole reason i like them so much
