Hi ,
Please could someone kindly advise how to apply for a discount when paying a water bill and who is entitled to a possible discount and do i have to receive certain benefits to qualify for the discount?
Thank you
Kind regards

The Water Sure scheme might be what you've heard about.
The benefits you need to be on depends on your supplier. You should check which benefits they cover.
All suppliers offer WaterSure if either you or someone in your household get one of the following benefits:
- Universal Credit
- Pension Credit
- Housing Benefit
- income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Income Support
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Working Tax Credit
- Child Tax Credit awarded at a rate higher than the family element
Some water suppliers also offer WaterSure if you're on Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments. You should check with your water company if you're not sure if they cover these benefits.

I have just moved into a 1 bed bungalow which has communal heating, because of this I cannot have a water meter which I wanted so have been placed on a capped tariff of £311 per year as I am the only person living here,I was told this is the best they can do for me but am not happy with it as I will not use that amount of water in a year but I will just have to pay it!

Do also ask the water company to do calculations when thinking of changing to a different tariff, it won't automatically be cheaper or the better fit.
In the past my household found out the hard way, that actually (due to being low users) the standard tariff was cheapest.

I agree with you.
I live alone and I struggle paying my bills.
I'm dreading the price increases in April.
