Unscheduled PIP assessment

I was at college today when I was rung twice by the Medical Assessment team during one of my lessons, I didn’t recognise the number until after the lesson had finished and looked up the number. Immediately I was anxious since I haven’t had an update on my PIP claim at all since I sent my form in at the end of August. I checked emails, voicemails and messages but had nothing to suggest I was going to get a call from anyone. I was eventually called back for a third time and ended up having an assessment where I was asked more questions about what I wrote in my application sheet alongside scenarios. It lasted about 40 minutes and I was shell shocked, I didn’t have my carer nearby to help me since it was unexpected and I was at school. Does this fit the description of an actual assessment or did they just want to add to their report for the DWP? Still new to this and have a hard time understanding the process without help but I have seen similar posts from a few years ago on here that sound similar. Worried I may have mucked it up for myself. Thanks

Did they say who was actually calling you? It could be that it was a decision maker on your claim, calling for clarification over a few points rather than a full assessment.

He said he was part of the Medical Assessment thing. Initially he said it would take only 20 minutes though that doubled and at the end he said that he would call me again if he needed to, otherwise DWP would be in contact again if everything is good. So not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing, though he hasn’t called me again since.

It does sound like you may have had a paper based assessment, and that call was part of it.

This happens when the assessment provider feels they have enough information (including the call) to avoid a full assessment.
