Jane, there's a photo of me in my pram during the deep freeze of 1962/3 grinning the biggest grin 😀

Billiegoat I'm exactly the same as you.

I also have a heated throw. The point is when it's cold you don't want to get from under it, even to use the bathroom LOL.

I too have a freezing cold nose a lot of the time, which I think is to do with my Raynaud's. I find wearing a snood or similar helps a bit, pulling it up over my nose. You can actually buy nose warmers but I've never tried them, they look odd too.

Powercuts … My Father used to rig up a car headlamp onto a car battery. Plus lots of candles. Toasting bread on the fire. We were all coal and electric then, no gas.

Oh & another one, before the bathroom was built … We had to use an outside toilet brrrrr

Yes, hot water bottles are another must and wearing several layers. Thermals.

And wearing a scarf or snood around your neck, even in the house, keeps you toasty.

A hot water bottle, helps keep the heating off for me, also layers for clothing and a big blanket. I'm from Africa so I really feel the cold, it was seldom less than 15C in winter where I grew up.

When having a bath or shower though or first thing in the morning surely you must have the heating on

Since changing to sherpa fleece bedding I don't need the heating on. I actually find myself taking layers off.

It's true that you get used to things, I can't spell aclimatize this morning? If the house is normally 18, a few degrees either way can have you removing or adding layers, I don't have the heating on currently and it's 16 but I feel warm in a nice onesie and wool type shawl. It's about how you feel, not the temp though. Later on today if that drops and I feel cold, I might put it on but it's not really a cold winter, yet.

So far I've kept it to the absolute minimum and monthly gas bill is around £109 but I am in 3 bedroom home
