Call for Participants: Understanding gambling behaviour among PWLDs from a supporters' perspective
Hi all
My name is Chloe Francis, I am a PhD researcher at the University of Wolverhampton. I have received funding from GambleAware to undertake a research project looking at experiences of gambling among people with learning disabilities.
I am looking to interview family members, friends, carers and supporters of people with learning disabilities, about gambling behaviour and gambling-related harm among people with learning disabilities.
This is because we are interested in learning more about how gambling participation fits into the lives of people with learning disabilities. The research also aims to better understand ways in which people with learning disabilities may be exposed to a greater risk of harm from gambling, and what can be done to reduce those risks. The interview can be completed either in-person, or online (through Microsoft Teams or Zoom), depending on your preference and location.
We are looking to speak to individuals who meet one of these criteria:
- Care for or support an adult family member or friend with a learning disability or borderline learning disability (who has participated in gambling)
- Are a paid carer for an adult with a learning disability or borderline learning disability (who has participated in gambling)
- Are employed in another role that involves supporting people with learning disabilities, at least one of whom is an adult who has participated in gambling
Participants must also be over the age of 18, and live in England.
Each participant will receive a £15 gift voucher as a thank you for their time.
I have attached a participant information sheet for the study, and would be very grateful if you could pass this on to anybody who you think would be a good fit for the research. The information sheet explains what is involved in the study, and tells people how to contact me if they would like to take part.
It would be great to hear from you if you are interested in taking part or able to support with recruitment for this research, I can be contacted at c.e.francis@wlv.ac.uk.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Chloe
