ESA

I've just had an alarming message on my journal. It is headed "Other Benefits Affecting your UC" They go on to say that I get ESA and that I can continue getting it but they will adjust my UC payment?????

I've been on UC since Feb 2023. I am on LCWRA ESA and PIP.

Does this mean that the amount of ESA will be deducted from what I get from UC each month? This will in effect mean I won't get anything from UC. So will I only be on ESA and PIP after that? I'm really worried.

These Journal messages are automated reminders, to remind you to inform them of any changes.

What happened to your ESA, means before you were getting both Contributions Based & Income Related.

When someone is on both CB & IR ESA, upon migration to UC the IR ESA ends and is replaced by UC, the CB ESA converts automatically into New Style ESA.

NS ESA is paid separately from UC, fortnightly at a rate of £276.40.

This is deducted in full (598.68) from each UC payment.

As UC is a monthly benefit and ESA weekly, the numbers may look wrong- but are correct.

If you look back at previous Statements you should see the ESA deduction has been happening all along.

Absolutely nothing different will happen as a result of that Journal message, it's just that now you understand fully about how your payments are made up.

Thank you. I looked at my payments and it is already beingh taken off but I panicked when I read it. They explained it is an automated message.
