hiya, my daughter was diagnosed with a progressive neurological condition at the start of this year. I’m finding it very hard to come to terms with and really feel alone in it. I would love to talk to other parents whose children have similar disabilities. For reference my daughter is only 7. Thank you.

hi and welcome to the forum I'm sure some of our members will be parents of a disabled child or young person.

I would recommend that you visit the coffee lounge to relax and have general conversation and the games den for some fun.

    Hi @fae_38

So sorry this hasn't been answered sooner, it must have got lost in the community.

It's completely understandable that you're finding it difficult and feeling alone. Receiving news like that is very overwhelming for any parent. Please know that you're not alone in this and many other parents have felt exactly the same when receiving their childs diagnosis.

It's natural to feel overwhelmed and lost right now. It's okay to allow yourself to feel those emotions – grief, anger, sadness, fear. They are all valid and a part of the process.

Hopefully some of our parents and carers who are members will be able to relate and share their experience and offer support. If your daughters condition has a specific diagnosis or name then searching for related organizations is a great first step. Hopefully this will open up other avenues of support such as condition specific online forums, support groups and tailored resources etc for your family.

It may be worth exploring your local offer. This a website that should have information on all things disability in your area such as social care information but also any information on local support groups for parents and carers of disabled children.

There is also Listening Ear which is a great service for parents and carers of disabled children looking for emotional support and reassurance. The parent advisers are all parents of disabled children as well as lots of professional experience and you can book an appointment online. You will be able to talk to the adviser about how you are feeling and get some support for yourself.

I really hope you find the support you need. Please know that you are not alone in this.

Hope this was helpful and please reach out if you would like further support or have any other questions.
