Help please - care services in the south west

Hi all, first post after using the Scope helpline.

I’m 65, spinal lesions mean I rely on a powered wheelchair and I also have extensive care needs, ADHD, cancer and various other impairments that I won’t bore you with.

I’m trying to find somewhere to live after my marriage failed and, as my wife was my personal carer, I’m facing moving to a new home in a new area and relying on personal care and assessment through the local council.

At the moment, I’m considering North Dorset, East and South Devon. If you also have care needs and have an opinion about how effective your council is/was in assessing your needs and actually providing care in any of those three areas, it would be really helpful to hear from you please.

Alternatively, if you think your area is great for assistance for disabled people and you think it’s worth looking at just because of that, feel free to comment, any helpful advice is better than what I’ve got now.

inevitably, I can only buy with a fixed budget, so expensive areas are out. At the moment I just feel completely overwhelmed with all this, but cannot afford to move somewhere where services for d.p. are inadequate.

if you can help with your experiences and knowledge, please, please, give me a hand.

Thanks
