Uc migration linking code

Hello. For a joint claim does person 1 have to complete the whole form and submit before person 2 can complete their form? How does the linking code work and how do you make sure both are linked. Do you get confirmation? How do you get a copy of the information you have submitted if you do not have a printer or without printing individual screen shots. Thanks
