I’m going to submit my claim for UC next week, I don’t want to wait any longer

It’s entirely up to you whether you choose a telephone claim or an online claim. However, keep in mind that opting for an online claim doesn’t mean you can’t manage it by telephone as well. The main benefit of an online claim is that it gives you easier access to view your statements and provides more options for communicating with them when needed.
With an online claim, you'll also be able to view your statements each month without having to wait to get through to them on the phone.
Good luck on the 8th, and please let us know how you get on, @ChrisSCOPEhtfc94.

It’s the intentions Morgan - to do it next Wednesday. I want to do it on that day. It’s WHETHER I can get through to one of the Help to Claim Service advisors on their phone line. I want to go through them. If it’s too busy, that scuppers my plans. When I do my claim it will be over the phone.

If I can get my claim submitted next Wednesday my assessment period would be 8-7th each calendar month. That should mean I receive my first payment 7 days after 7th Feb - which would be 14th.
Of course however I want twice monthly payments so if I’ve got this right, my payment dates would be 14th and 28th each calendar month*.
*yes, I know even with set dates on an APA it’s not guaranteed you’ll get your payments on those dates. It’ll depend on the layout of each month.

If I didn’t get the severe disability premium I wouldn’t wait for the migration letter either. I would prefer to be in control of when I migrate like you

Yes, ESA claimants like me who aren’t in receipt of the SDP have more freedom on when they can choose to move over. It’s not a risk moving over. If the SDP is part of an individual’s ESA claim then it’s in their best interests to wait for the letter to arrive.
I absolutely want to kick-start the process next Wednesday. It’s just whether they Help to Claim Service phone line isn’t busy. If they’re too busy to take my call I’d be rather frustrated.

I have been told by my mother if I can’t submit the claim next Wednesday as planned then I should delay moving over, wait until the end of the football season when I’m not doing as much with myself then submit a claim for it if the letter still hasn’t come. The football season ends in May. I go to many football matches - my local team is Huddersfield .
The letter could arrive before May but perhaps it won’t as well. Goodness knows how they distribute the letters. The claimant honestly couldn’t predict when they’ll receive it.

My mother is autistic I think and even she thinks she is. She shows all the typical behaviour of someone who has autism. Stuff like benefits unsettles her even when it’s not her claim. If I can’t get the claim submitted next Wednesday I think I’ll continue like I am receiving my ESA payments, wait until May when the football season is out of the way then submit a claim in May if the letter still hasn’t arrived.

I’ll see what happens on Wednesday first, see if I can get through to one of the Citizens Advice Help to Claim Service advisors so they can help me submit the claim. If not, I’ll just continue on ESA for now until May, get the football season out of the way then get that claim submitted to UC in May should the letter not arrive before then.

Having had further discussions with mother, me and her have agreed together to delay a “voluntary migration” for now. She thinks this, it’s not like I’m not getting any money at all. I’m still getting something to live on at the moment and I do agree with her. She thinks as well I have a settled routine at the present time, being able to attend my local team’s football matches, going out on my train rides.
We will of course still keep an eye out on our letter box 📮📫📬📪, to see whether the migration notice comes before the end of the football ⚽️ 🥅 season in May. If it still hasn’t decided to arrive by the time the football season comes to a close, then I’ll do a move across to UC from the ESA Support Group.

The migration notice could come before the month of May or it may not, you just can’t predict. No ESA claimant can look into a crystal ball 🔮 and find out exactly when they’ll get their letter ✉️ . I don’t even know the DWP decides to distribute them to the claimants on ESA 🤔🤔.

When I do make my claim for UC in the future I’ll be posting my update on this thread 👍. I’ll be sure to do that.

I could still get my letter before May because the DWP are meant to be ramping up the number of migration notices they’re sending out to ESA claimants from next month. I do wonder if this story has any truth to it?

I know I’ll be better off in terms of the amount of money I receive when I do eventually migrate. Not choosing to migrate next week won’t make any difference to that 👍.

I do know it will definitely be this year that I get my letter ✉️ because they’re meant to be done sending them all out by the end of this year (December).

I know as well when I do my migration that I shouldn’t have any hassle with being asked for fit notes ✅✔️☑️👍. A fix has been applied to the systems based on a story I saw last year ☑️✔️✅. It sounds like the system does a better job now at detecting that you’re a claimant moving across from income-related ESA and that you’re placed into the Support Group equivalent on UC (the LCWRA group) straight away or pretty fast.
