EHCP Help
Hi
I wonder if you can help me, My daughter is on the waiting list for ASD and ADHD assessments. But with her being in year 5 at school we need to get her EHCP done so that when we apply for school at end of 2025 we can look at special schools. The school she goes to have said they wont apply for EHCP until she has a confirmed diagnosis. But we have a report from the Educational Phycologist. Which says she has no executive function skills and lost of other things that the school agrees with.
But can you confirm do we need a diagnosis or can we apply without?

Hi @Dadof4
No you don't need a diagnosis to apply for an ECHP as they are about the impact of your child’s challenges not the cause.
You can still apply for an EHCP even if the school have said they won't apply for one until a diagnosis. Parents can contact the local authority directly to get the EHCP ball rolling even if the school don't want to apply/aren't supportive.
There is some more in-depth information about this process here and here
Please reach out if you have any more questions or would like further support.
