Sadly this isn't just being reported in the Torygraph, but in pubs like the Big Issue + Disability Rights UK website. They're planning £3 billion cuts to welfare, mostly by slashing PIP payments and making it even harder to qualify + "reforming" the capability of work assessment as per Tory proposals, although as regards the latter Labour are saying they won't be as harsh as Stride's proposals (but no details yet).

    Big Issue link here:

    https://www.bigissue.com/news/social-justice/dwp-changes-2025-benefit-reforms-universal-credit/

I was listening to Any Questions R4 today, they say the main reason for doing this is Trump coming into power + his plans to slap import duties on UK exports. I'd like to know why the disabled, some of the most vulnerable in society, must pay for costs to the economy. Why not a wealth tax on the super rich? They reckon a 2% tax on those with assets over 10 million would alone raise £24 billion.

Not only that, Labour's cuts will be self-defeating. They'll hit the disabled hard and make it even harder for us to have the energy + health to be able to work - if you spend you days shivering at home with little food and tattered clothes, what chance do you have? But they think if they make it really really intolerable for us, we'll all troop willingly back into employment + they can put our little bit of support back into their golden-throned Treasury.

The whole thing makes me sick…

Only just got over all the worrying last year, and now this. We will have to wait until March before we see what’s happening. I’m going to try and stay calm. This government had made such shocking changes so I’ve no idea what they will do next. Who would have thought our elderly could be targeted like they have? All I do know is any changes to our awards will be seriously contested, especially after they have been so hard fought. If Reeves wants less of us to be ill, she has no idea how to go about this, all she will do is create more anxiety and depression. One thing is for sure, we are all together supporting one another. So let’s just wait and see. Reeves and Starmer will hopefully be removed before anything they decide to do can come into play. Stay strong everyone. Scope is here to help and support us all.

GB News is perhaps not the most balanced or reliable source of news! Best avoided, unless you enjoy a high blood pressure?

That is the likely outcome, however it is the worst outcome.
What you described "reducing the case load", will mean removing support completely from people. Reducing the money is actually the less cruel way of doing things, as everyone is then still getting support, and the hit is spread across everyone.
I remember when ESA was introduced, there was disabled people saying it was good, and the "proper" people were not kicked off it, I feel we about to get the same when we have people coming out saying reducing the caseload is ok and the amount of money is more important.

I read that they are sending £500 million abroad for farming projects. I really don't understand their logic, spending millions abroad again for net zero while letting our pensioners freeze. They seem to love throwing money to other countries while letting the vunerable suffer. I read they may take pensioners free prescriptions. Surely there must be something to stop this madness.

What about emailing or writing to starmer saying how it will effect us, outlining our disability. How hard it is to get pip anyway

I'm scared honestly, I'm struggling physically and mentally. They are making it worse mentally. I wish I could win the lottery and be off benefits. Work wise I don't know what I could physically do. I have fatigue as well as my other things and need to sleep in the day.

I wish they’d just tell us and end the speculation. Today’s articles are less PIP specific and more “£1.3 billion in cuts to welfare” so it’s not just targeting PIP.

@Catherine21 it is an uncertain time during transitions like this, and social media often doesn't help. A lot of scare mongering, over exaggeration, and fake news unfortunately. Sometimes it's hard to see the wood through the trees which can take it's toll so I completely understand how you feel.

I know it's easier said than done (because I'm a nightmare for not taking my own advice), but try to take some time away from social media and news each day and do something nice for you. Even if it's just a little distraction that makes you feel good. 💛

Oh bless you @Catherine21 I hope you're feeling a bit better today?

Just a thought about your sleeping you mentioned in the earlier post, is it worth having a chat with your GP as they might be able to prescribe you something that'll help when you're feeling like this. 💛

Make sure you take care of yourself.
