LCWRA Assessment

Hi everyone,

I'm new here so apologise if this is posted in wrong area. I have Stage 3 Cervical Cancer and was Awarded UC in June 2024. I have completed my treatment and now waiting to hear how successful it has been. I have provided 3 monthly Fit Notes consistently during this time and had my LCWRA assessment this morning. Before it began, the assessor stated the interview would be short as they had all my evidence, which surprised me as I was told it would take up to an hour or more and I'd been really worrying about this. I had researched the questions I would be asked however, I didn't really get asked very much and it was more of a conversation where I basically just explained everything I had been through and continue to experience. The call lasted 20 mins. I'm just wondering what the next step will be and when the decision would be relayed to me and how. I'm also wondering about the likelyhood of me receiving the additional payment as this has been such a difficult time financially. Any advice greatly appreciated.

You will receive a letter on your Journal with the results, this can take up to 12 weeks.

Do you have any Transitional Protection on your claim, or a partner you live with that gets LCWRA themselves?

If eligible, LCWRA has a waiting period of three full assessment periods, from the date the first Fit Note was handed in. No money is paid or subsequently owed for that period.

If you would like more details, then I'd need to know:

The exact date you handed in your first Fit Note was.

Any gaps in providing them, any that were backdated?

Your UC assessment period or payment date.

Did any of the following applied when you first reported your health conditions?

If you were receiving treatment for cancer by way of chemo and/or radiotherapy or likely to receive it within 6 months or recovering from treatment? If so then you're automatically entitled to LCWRA. In this case an assessment should not have been needed.

When you filled out the form did you fill in the part about cancer treatment? It would have needed to be signed by a health professional.

Thank you both for responding. I've provided fit notes, no gaps since June. I was too poorly to have chemo but had 25 fractions of radiotherapy and 3 brachytherapy surgeries which I'm still recovering from. This was all noted on the claim form and confirmed by GP. I'm still under Christies at the moment as having a bad reaction to radiotherapy which is understandable investigation.
