Universal Credit capability for work questionnaire
Background
My youngest son has just got his 1st house, he was very lucky given the waiting list.
He suffers from numerous MH issues, borderline personality disorder, anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation.
He applied for ADP in 2023 and was awarded high rate for both components with award review date for 2026.
He has now been advised by his housing officer to apply for this UC capability for work form.
I have helped him fill it out as he is extremely paranoid and unlike most lads in their early 20s he does not trust Internet among many other things that could make his life easier, mobile phone, email address etc but that is part of his illnesses.
Anyway my question is will it help him that he gets ADP high rate for both living and mobility needs or will they go on this form alone.
He is hoping for a paper based assessment like what he got with his claim for ADP, would they take in account his MH needs and understand that he suffers from paranoia and anxiety and when he feels under pressure his behaviour unpredictable due to his MH and I have written that in the form with real life examples.
My question is would it worth putting a note in that should they require any further evidence all medical history from his psychiatrist in regards to his MH, along with medical reports and supporting letters from his GP, psychological therapist are already on the DWP system and he gives permission for whoever is doing his UC assessment to check and compare his ADP file if need be.
Can they see that he has been awarded ADP? or do they need permission.
I have been doing a bit of Google research and I think it may be possible that he may be put in the LCW group.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

There's 2 possible groups, LCW and LCWRA. He would only receive extra money each month if found to have LCWRA, It's the same as Support Group for ESA. You can see the descriptors here, at least one of these needs to apply.
ADP and LCWRA are completely different and being entitled to one doesn't automatically entitle you to the other.
I don't know if DWP are able to check the SSS system for anything related to his ADP claim. Even if they could, you shouldn't rely on them doing this and he will need to make sure he sends any relevant supporting evidence with the form.
If there's enough of information to write the report without an assessment they will but he should expect an assessment because the majority of people have them. Are you his appointee? if so and an assessment is needed you will be able to answer the questions on his behalf.

I' m in Scotland too 👋
I'm also an appointee for my son. He was still on DLA when we applied for UC for him. We filled out the work capability questionnaire and received a date for him to go in for assessment.
At the same time that was happening, his DLA transfer to PIP was going through. Pip awarded him on a paper based decision.
Then we got notified that his work capability assessment for UC had been cancelled because "new evidence had come to light"
We had not submitted any new evidence. I can only think that UC got news of his pip award as he was put in LCWRA group for UC.
ADP though is not administered by DWP so i doubt their systems will communicate.
Your son was really fortunate in getting a house! Despite 2 independent psychiatrists writing reports to say our 26yr old cannot live independently, our son does not qualify for supported housing in our area as he does not have night needs.
The best they can offer is a care package put into a normal tenancy application. No way would he manage that so he is still with us at home.
He is still on pip. The Adp transfer should have happened this month but doesn't seem to have.
All the best of luck with your application🙂

@anisty 👋
Yes he was very lucky getting a house its what was once classed as a pensioners house and it suits him and his needs, it's a one bedroom mid terrace bungalow he has an alert system in his house but trying to explain that he needs to keep the phone line plugged in for it too work is another matter.
I must admit his Dad, brother, cousins and other family members do drive bys just to check.
Thank you and I hope your lad manages to get a house suited to his needs x

I would say that sounds positive but someone with more experience will advice.
As I've read on here paper based assessment are rare but they do happen, personally I have always had a assessment so can't comment on paper based assessments.
I do hope my son gets one as he would not be able to manage a assessment imho

I keep reading you need fitness notes/sick lines my son does not have them he just has his patient copies and support letters.
Will he be asked for fitness note?
0 -
When he reports his health condition, he will need to provide a fit note within 7 days of that. He must continue to provide fit notes without any gaps up until a decision is made on his work capability assessment. He won't be referred for a work capability assessment without providing fit notes. Please see link.
All other evidence he has needs to be sent when he returns the UC50 form.
