If you get a Police pension that contains an injury pension

Hi, we found this out by accident and when asking UC upon migration and various agencys like citizens advice, they didn't know the answer.

So back before our uc migration, we got a notice we had to repay back £4000. We rang up dwp I think it was and this wonderful lady asked some questions. Firstly she found out we didn't owe it.

Second and the reason for this post. My husband was getting Disabled persons tax credits beacuse he worked 16 hrs. She asked me to send a copy of his police pension (he is still under pension age) payslip. On there it says he gets police pension of x amount and then an injury pension of x amount.

(hubbie had to retire from the force because he was injured on the job, and then got the pension ever since)

So she said that Police injury pension is treated like PIP in that it is not means tested and is discounted in any calculations.

They had missed this, and promptly gave a lump back payment but not for that many years (it had been 15) I don't know why. She also upped the tax credit money because the injury pension had been counted and it should not have been.

So when we moved to uc, I tried really hard to establish if this would indeed be counted. I had to ask how to fill in the form for it, and there was not really a place to fill that in. So i was told to esablish this in our journal. And indeed, with UC Police Injury pension is NOT counted.

I even asked the police themselves and, weirdly they not had this situation come up. I guess there are not many retired injured police offers claiming tax credits or UC.

So since this was an obscure point of fact about UC and Police Injury pension. I wanted to give a heads up to anyone else that might find themselves in the same situation.

Admin feel free to make this more streamlined if needed.
