Hi

Thanks for letting me join - I have been lurking around for a while as the advice here is amazing and has been so helpful to read as someone new to disabilities. My husband is awaiting a PIP decision and was awarded LCWRA back in December. He submitted first fit note mid October and our period of UC runs from 27th of the month. Would anyone be able to advise when the first LCWRA payment should start? I have been putting notes on the journal for over a month with no response so hoping someone on here may be kind enough to give some guidance?
Many thanks x

hi there unfortunately I can't give you any advice in terms of PIP because I'm not an expert in this field. However what I can do is recommend that you visit the coffee lounge for a general chit chat or the games den for more fun.

thanks - sorry wasn’t sure where to post this. It’s actually about the LCWRA rather than PIP. Thanks for responding though

LCWRA has a waiting period of three full assessment periods, from the date the first Fit Note was handed in. No money is paid or subsequently owed for that period.

In order to advise correctly we need to know which date the health condition was reported, and the date the first Fit Note was handed in.

Also, were there any gaps in supplying Fit Notes, any thay were backdated etc?

thanks Kimmy87 - we moved to UC on 15th October and uploaded for note then (valid until February 2025). He was awarded LCWRA 17th December and our qualifying periods are 27th of the month. I had anticipated that payment would be in this months statement (just posted on journal) but wasn’t. However I hadn’t anticipated that UC was paid retrospectively for the month so believe now that it should come in for next month?

    October/November: AP 1

    November/December: AP 2

    December/January: AP 3

    January/February: Eligible for LCWRA element.

3rd February: First LCWRA element paid*

They owe him one months LCWRA, it's likely they haven't had time to process the decision.

You'll know this been done as a letter will be added to your Journal confirming the amount owed. The payment will then be sent within several working days.

*If you have Transitional Protection on the claim, it will reduce by the LCWRA amount.

*If he has Carers Element in his name on the claim, LCWRA will replace this as the same person cannot get both.

*If you yourself get LCWRA, no money will be paid as within a couple the maximum number of LCWRA elements is 1.

PS, if your husband is awarded Daily Living PIP, you can claim Carers Element under UC which is currently worth £198.31.

You said you claimed UC on 15th October so I would expect your assessment periods to be 15th to 14th of every month and your payment date would be 21st of every month.

What are you referring to when you said your qualifying periods are 27th of every month?

apologies that was my error - we applied 28th September - the fit note wasn’t seen until 15th October.
qualifying periods ends 27th and payment 3rd of following month.

Was the health condition still reported on the same day as Fit Note handed in?

health condition was reported from the outset - I added the fit note as soon as account was full up and running as there was a delay due to having to have someone come to house and make me my husbands advocate.

Thank you. What date did you actually provide that fit note? If it was 15th October as you first said then that changes the first payment date and your waiting period will be as follows..

Oct/Nov, Nov/Dec, Dec/Jan… LCWRA starts from 28th Jan to 27th Feb and first payment will be 3rd March, not 3rd Feb.

yes that makes sense re 3rd March - thanks.

I had put notes in journal since receiving the letter award back in December but no response. Great to have this resource to get some clarity.

    I agree with Poppy.

September/October: Partial AP, excluded from waiting period.

    October/November: AP 1

    November/December: AP 2

    December/January: AP 3

    January/February: Eligible for LCWRA element.

3rd March: First LCWRA element paid

No money is owed in backpay.
