One assessment makes sense. However, many people that qualify for PIP do not qualify for UC because they have more than £16K. So how can the benefits be merged?

Probably the government has a bunker a mile from the surface and they are not afraid of Russian nuclear bombs. At the same time, the government does not need to spend money on disabled people - it will literally evaporate!

My opinion: any reforms should only apply to those who receive benefits for the first time and have not previously been recognized as disabled.

I opposed the cut to ESA WRAG payments (new claims) despite being in the Support Group myself at the time.
If we have energy we should fight for others, remember "there but for the grace of God go I", a particular cut might not affect us personally but remember it could so easily have done, and remember too it might affect someone you love in future.

all over the news again this morning about welfare cuts I can’t cope with it all. I’m terrified on losing the 400 a month from LCWRA I’ve already been rejected for pip and it’s going to MR but I’m not holding out much hope. If they change the WCA so people like me who get it primarily for anxiety and mental health issues are no longer eligible I still won’t be able to work I just won’t be able to feed or clothe myself or my child. Talking about programs to get people back into work when any interaction I’ve had with the DWP has given me a complete breakdown, and some people think mental health is less serious so I can just go and work if I’m forced I’d rather just not be here at all. I’m so scared and terrified and sick of being picked on 14 years under the Tories now labour is worse living in poverty is my biggest fear and I’m scared to death they’re going to force me into not being able to afford food or gas again why can’t they just leave us all alone

This simply won't happen. There is no world where the cuts take effect in April, it will take years to implement.
I think what is being talked about is horrifying, but there is an element of you have to cross the bridge when you come to it, because a lot of what is being talked about will never happen. There's talk about the government need to raise money fast, but the reality is you won't raise money fast cutting benefits, as there will be all sorts of challenges.

Kimmy, spot on but unfortunately not enough others cared enough to oppose it or give it much thought in the 10 years since then! And thank you because I did too, knowing what was coming down the line!!
Scope, there is plenty of information available to research although announcements are yet to come. I don't disagree with that. New rules coming into force and the Spending Review will make everything clear but none of this is new. All of it was set in motion by Tory governments..

On the news saying Reeves will be talking about welfare after pmq's, well has anything been said? Someone also said that it wouldn't go down well with ministers or mp"s as a welfare system is important and targeting the disabled wouldn't go down well. Has anything been said today please?

I was doing fine until I read the news, this agenda, this narrative since 2023 portraying Disabled people as benefit scroungers is about turning the public against them thus justifying harsh cuts.
Imagine someone severely mentally ill/disabled being forced into a place of work, someone who can barely hold on, what do you think will happen? Lets be honest what do you think will happen if that person snaps at work or snaps in public? Has any of this crossed the minds of those jumped up stuffed shirts in Whitehall or within the Labour frontbench or within Reform or the Tories? NO it hasn't.
What will happen to the severely physically disabled person being forced into work or being made destitute? What do you think will happen to them?
Ultimately the people who cheer this on better count their blessings that they're able bodied and sound of mind because if any of them became ill/disabled they'll inherit the society of cold and callousness they support.

When will these changes be announced on 26 March 2025? Also what is Scope's take on all of this that's being reported in the media today?

Hey @YogiBear we've yet to receive times yet. As for our take, there will of course be an official statement from Scope on the day, once everyone's had time to check all the details properly.

Thank you Albus. I think all this speculation is very cruel on the disabled community and will be ramped up by the media in the next few weeks. The government doesn't seem to care. Will any of the proposed changes come into effect straight away do you know?

We'll know more on 26 March 2025 when we hear from the horses mouth so to speak. Maybe try and limit reading things online and listening to the news. That's what I'm going to do.

Unfortunately we currently have no way of knowing @YogiBear and the same for @Danny123 question. I really wish I could give you all the answers, but we just don't know what's happening. But I agree the media should just stop reporting about what they think may be happening, as it's not helping anyone's blood pressure or mental health.
As said previously, we've been told the government have been actively listening to and engaging with Scope and other charities. Something the previous government didn't do. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

All the online news outlets seem to have different rumours of the coming cutbacks, we've just got to remember that that's all they are at the moment, made up stories and rumours.
Although it's all a worry all we can do is wait untill the government wake up and tell us what's going to happen.
It's quite cruel how they're treating us like this.
The only certainty now is that Labour wont be getting voted in again !!

Reading the news is sickening but everything I've read today has been to do with spending cuts in general. The words "benefits" and "welfare" keep the right wing happy. Yes, we'll be hit but if Labour's plans to get more disabled people into employment they have to work slowly and steadily not like Sweeney Todd. Mind you, it's killing me.
