Thanksvery much Bluebell,
I have joined as my daughter who lives me me has had the dreaded letter to say that must apply for uc.She is currently on esa or it may be called eesa (not sure what the extra e may mean!) I think she is in the support group ,
I am not officially disabled as such but I was on incapacity for many years whilst caring for my daughter and now I am on state pension credit so it is not going to be easy to live for the few weeks when my daughter will have no income at all to contribute to our mutual household budget ,
I was wondering how other people have managed the transition as I am feeling that it won't be easy especially as I have to deal with all her forms ,phone calls etc due to her acute anxiety and other health factors and she has no id or bank account as her benefit is paid into my account with her consent .I hope this will be able to continue as it works ok for her .
I expect I will have alot more questions as I expect I will have to convince them that I take care of all her dealings with benefit people, gp etc
I will be grateful for anyone's personal experiences of the process of transition (as someones carer)
Many thanks everyone ,
Very best wishes ,
Heather

Once a claim for UC is submitted her Income Related ESA will continue for 2 weeks and then stop.
As she's in the Support Group for ESA her UC will include the LCWRA element from the start of her claim. Her first payment for UC will be about 5 weeks after she submitted the claim. Die to the 2 week run on of ESA this means that there will be about a 3 week gap between payments.
She can ask for an advance payment for UC but this does need to be repaid back and her future UC payments will be reduced to reflect the deduction.
Are you her appointee for ESA? If so then this will automatically be put into place for UC.
You can claim UC online and when you do this it will mean you will have access to an online journal. In that journal, you will be able to send and receive messages, see her monthly UC statements, report changes and also this is where all letters from UC will be uploaded to. When it's a digital claim, they do not send letters through the post.
Citizens Advice have a help to claim phone number so you can contact them for help and support when you claim.

Dear Poppy,
Thank you very much for your help with this,it is most helpful ,
I am her carer but do you know how I become her appointee ?
Also,I anticipate a problem as she has no id due to not having a passport, driving licence or bank account (apart from a dormant tsb savings account that is)

Information on becoming an appointee

To become her appointee when she claims UC you can put a message onto her journal to ask them. They will then arrange this. You will have a home visit from a DWP representative who will go through the process and fill out the form.
