Your old ESA award letter would tell you if you were WRAG or SG?

LCWRA is the SG equivalent on UC.

    I confused myself there.

I only just started getting UC LCWRA monthly, and the Contributions Based ESA, is now called New Style ESA, which I get fortnightly.

The Contribution Based part, if you got it, isn't involved in the migration process, only the Income Related ESA part is.

I've just looked at my paperwork, and the ESA award I had was as follows

    Living expenses - £90.50

    sdp - £81.50

    Disability Income Guarantee - £20.85

    Support Group - £47.70

Total of £240.55 per week. (£481.10 fortnightly).

My first, and so far only UC payment was for £443 - assessment period 02 Jan to 01 Feb.

That is because I am to also receive New Style ESA at £276.40 fortnightly.

The NS ESA is my former Contribution Based part of ESA, which isn't included in the migration.

Don't forget that there are 4.3 weeks in a month. I did at first, until corrected on here.

The NS ESA is deducted in full from my UC - £598.87

This is me so don't quote me on it!

To turn a monthly benefit into weeks, multiply by 12 and divide by 52.

Give or take a pound or two, it would seem to be. I am very definitely no expert, and knew nothing prior to signing up here a few weeks ago!

Please note, not everyone's ESA will revert to New style. Some people's ESA is just Income Related. I know mine for a fact is all Income Related so when I migrate across all of my ESA will end 2 weeks later.

It will only revert to New style if part of your ESA is contributions based but many people do not know this and when contacted they panic.

What's happened to your ESA, means before you were getting both Contributions Based & Income Related.

Many people don't know what their ESA claim is made up of until they migrate.

When someone is on both CB & IR ESA, upon migration to UC the IR ESA ends and is replaced by UC, the CB ESA converts automatically into New Style ESA.

You will still be in the Support Group for NS ESA & automatically receive the UC equivalent (LCWRA).

NS ESA will be paid separately from UC, fortnightly at a rate of £276.40.

This will be deducted in full (598.68) from each UC payment.

As UC is a monthly benefit and ESA weekly, the numbers may look wrong- but are correct.

You might get a letter or message mentioning work coach, medical evidence etc. Don't panic. The communication is generic, assuming the claim is a brand new one and not a transfer from the old ESA. Most of it won't apply to your claim.

You will need a commitments interview for NS ESA this is just a formality, your only commitment will be to keep them updated with any changes. It's usually done by phone and will be a very brief call.
