Has anyone been to NAIDEX before?

Hi all, I have been thinking about heading to this year's NAIDEX as a way of connecting with the community, and hopefully trying out some different wheelchairs and equipment to see if anything would work better for me than what I have now.
However it is a big deal for me to be going to something like that, the travel, the energy, pain levels etc, as well as being quite overwhelmed being in a space with lots of people that I find mentally tiring in itself.
Obviously being an event for disabled people I am hoping that means more understanding and better access than other places.
I guess I'm after some reassurance that it would be worth the toll it would take on my body, from someone that's been before!

Hi @SarahT41 sorry you've not had a response yet. Did you make it to Naidex in the end? I was going to ask if it was far for you to travel, and if so if you could travel with a friend and perhaps stay over somewhere so you had a place to go to if needed, and weren't feeling pressured to rush back and fourth in one day. Anyway, if you did make it, it'd be great to hear how it was? ☺️

Hi Holly, I didn't go this year, but am absolutely aiming to next year. It was going to be 3 trains at least and as someone that is new to train travel in a wheelchair, it seemed like too big a step for right now. Also you're right I couldn't have done there and back in a day, but even the cheapest hotels were a lot of money for me to spend on top of train fare. So not this year, but something for me to work towards!

Sorry you didn't get to go this year, but it sounds like you made the right decision from what you've said. Least if you go next year, you've got time to plan and save if it's expensive and having everything booked and planned will hopefully help you feel less worried and able to enjoy it more.
Thanks for coming back to me and hope to hear about Naidex next year 😊
